Introducing: Frank Peretti!

One of the things I like to do with my blog is tell people about books I am reading, or have read in the past. One of the Christian authors that I really like is Frank Peretti.  I have read many of his novels: The Oath, The Prophet, Tillie, The Hangman's Curse, The Door in the Dragon's Throat.  All of these are great books.

But by far, the books that I have enjoyed most of all are his two 'Darkness' books: This Present Darkness and the sequel to that wonderful book,  Piercing the Darkness.

I've heard he has been asked to do another sequel to these two books, and he has refused because they create too much interest in demons and the occult. That may be just a rumor, I don't know. But aside from being exceptionally well written and fun to read, these two books give the reader a glimpse of what may be going on in the spirit world.

As we come closer to Halloween I think it is important that Christians be on their guard against the reality of the devil and his demons.  And Frank Peretti's books, This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness, do an excellent job of increase our awareness of the spiritual world. The Bible says:

"Put on the whole armour of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities  against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." - Ephesians 6:11,12

Mr. Peretti's books are fiction, although as he will readily tell you, the subject matter is based on Biblical fact. For two excellent sermons that also heighten our awareness of the Devil and his demons, please listen to:

Pro-Woman! Pro-Child! Pro-Life!

I got the title for this post from a bumper sticker I saw today. It sends a clear message that those who are against abortion (pro-life) are not against women.  Those who oppose abortion are simply for ALL women, not just those who can vote. Barack Obama's hatred for the unborn - many of whom would grow up to be women one day if spared the doctor's knife! - rival's Hitler's hatred for the Jews. I'm a Jew

Actually, my ancestors came from Norway and Sweden.  But Spiritually, I'm more of a Jew than the current Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu.  If you are unsure of your own spiritual ancestry  please take some time today to listen to Dr. David Murray's sermon, "I'm a Jew. Hope You are Too."

The text for this sermon is Romans 2:28 & 29:

"For he is not a Jew which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision which is outward in the flesh: but he is a Jew which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God."

Children Need Jesus Too

Cassidy Goodson Charged With First-Degree Murder for Killing Newborn Son ("A 14 year old girl in Polk County, Fla. was arrested Thursday for allegedly choking her newborn son to death and storing the body in a shoe box after she secretly gave birth in a bathroom at her home earlier this month.")

This poor child needs Jesus. She desperately needs Jesus. She needs to listen to good gospel preaching, like Jonathan Edwards sermon, God is very angry at the sins of children, their heart is naturally full of sin, and also Charles Haddon Spurgeon's A Sermon for the Worst Man (woman, boy, girl) on Earth.

When read this story, I thought about the time when the Scribes and Pharisees brought a woman to our Lord Jesus who 'was caught in adultery, in the very act." (John 8:1-11).  They reminded Jesus that the law demanded that she be stoned. Jesus said to them.,'He that is without sin among you cast the first stone"

After they left, Jesus asked the woman, "Where are thine accusers? Hath no man condemned thee?"

She answered him, '"No man, Lord."

Then  Jesus said unto her, "Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more."

And I pictured the self righteous (Westboro Baptist Type!) Christians, taking this 14 year old girl to Jesus and telling him what she had done. I like to think that Jesus would have said to her also, "Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more!"

I think our Lord Jesus is much more angry with the doctors and nurses who have murdered 50 million babies in the womb over the past 40 years, than he is with a 14 year old girl who at a desperate point in her life made a bad decision.

The Brave New World of Contemporary Christian Musicians

Oops! She did it again! Contemporary Christian musician Carrie Underwood has made the news again. The last time her name appeared in the news (at least in conservative Christian news sources), it was because she endorsed same sex marriage (Carrie Underwood Endorses Gay Marriage) Now she is all over the Internet for kissing a 12 year old boy on the lips (Carrie Underwood kisses 12-year-old fan at Kentucky concert).

Apparently, the boy was at one of her concerts recently, held up a sign that asked her to be his first kiss. She obliged.  While many view this as cute (what 12 year old boy would not want to kiss a 29 year old female rock star on the lips?) Pastor Trevor Hammack makes a good point that if this had been a 29 year old male giving a 12 year old girl 'her first kiss,' it probably wouldn't have been seen as 'cute.' (see  29 Year Old Kisses 12 Year Old Boy, by Pastor Trevor Hammack).

I worked with at the hospital with a respiratory therapist years ago. He took a picture of himself kissing their babysitter on the lips (I think she was around 12 years old as well). The picture showed their tongues touching. I think the babysitter's mother saw the picture, called the police, and he was eventually convicted of a sex crime based on that one photo alone - no other accusations were made against him.

He lost his job at the hospital. He lost his licence to practice respiratory therapy. His wife divorced him. He was forced to undergo sex offender treatment. And he has to register as a sex offender - for basically doing what Carrie Underwood did to her 12 year old fan. A double standard? Probably.

Pulpit Freedom Sunday 2012 - What's it All About? Part I

This is part 1 in a 3 part series on Pulpit Freedom Sunday. Please read the article, Pastors Prepare to Defy IRS With “Pulpit Freedom Sunday”. This news article provides an opportunity to look again into the controversy surrounding the  501c3 Tax Exempt status for churches.

The writer of this article says,  "The purpose [of Pulpit Freedom Sunday] is to make sure that the pastor, and not the IRS, decides what is said from the pulpit." Actually, it is, or should be, the Bible that decide what  is to be said from the pulpit, but let's not split hairs!

There are 2 issues at stake in Pulpit Freedom Sunday. One is the pastors' first amendment right to freedom of speech, granted to them by the United States government. If (some say when!) that right is taken away, Pastors are going to have to decide whether they want to obey God (Acts 5:29) or the state.

The second issue, and really more to the point on this particular event, is whether or not a church can claim 501 c3 tax exempt status,  and still expect the government to allow them to say anything they want (or they feel the Bible compels them to say) from the pulpit.

To me, this is like the church wanting to have its cake (501 c3 tax exempt status) and eat it too (be protected from the IRS).

In an effort to try to look at both sides of the issue,  please take time to listen to these 2 great audio messages (I respect pastor Hammack, but on this issue, I agree more with Brother Slattery!).

Ford to cut hundreds of jobs in Europe

The Bible says: "If a man will not work, neither shall he eat." - II Thessalonians 3:10. But many people today want to work - but they can't find a job.  According to an article in CNNMoney, the auto company Ford to cut hundreds of jobs in Europe.

It saddens me when I think of the hundreds of people in Europe who are going to lose their jobs. People need to  provide for their needs in Europe, just as they do in America. But a part of me is asking the question, why is Ford building plants in other countries and hiring non Americans, when there is so much unemployment in our own country.

One explanation is that it has to do with free trade - when our countries lay off workers in America and set up shot in other countries, the other countries turn around and buy more products from America, which stimulates  our economy and everyone benefits in the long run.

That is one way of looking at it. But Patrick Buchanan has another perspective on free trade. Please take the time to read his profound book:

Jesus Not Allowed - In America!

'Jesus Not Allowed': Anti-Faith Sentiment Sweeps US - US - CBN News - Christian News 24-7 - CBN.com:

For ten righteous men God would have spared Sodom and Gomorrah. I have to wonder if God is holding back his wrath against America because of the true Christians that still live in this land.  Our Lord Jesus said:

"Ye are the salt of the earth, but if the salt hath lost its savor it is henceforth good for nothing but to be cast under foot and trodden among men." Matthew 5:13

It is getting harder and harder for Christians to be salt in America. And the time may soon come when we have lost all our saltiness, and the godless in this country will trample us underfoot.

Jesus said, "And ye shall be hated of all men for my name sake, and then the end shall come." Matthew 24: 9

David Brainard - Missionary to the Indians

On my way home from work last night I listened to an excellent message on David Brianard, missionary to the Indians.  I want to encourage you to listen to it as well.

During my 9 years in prison I got to know a lot of Indians - or Native Americans, or just Natives, as many prefer to be called.  I have had the chance to get into some deep discussions with them about the past, specifically how the white men came to this country and 'stole' their land from them.

I tell them honestly that I have mixed feelings about it. My relatives came to this country from Scandinavia in the late 1800's, and my grandfather was a wheat farmer back in North Dakota - a land that was occupied just a generation earlier native tribes such as the Dakota and Lakota Sioux.

I don't believe my grandfather stole anything from anybody. But there is no question that much of the white man's dealings with the Indians/Natives (as well as the blacks and the Mexicans in this country) have been incredibly evil in God's sight. On judgment day, all of those sins will have to be accounted for  and punished, unless they are covered by the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

But getting back to David Brainard. A person can devote their whole life to working for social justice - and it is a noble calling. But David Brainard devoted his life to bringing the gospel to the native/Indian tribes and that is a much higher calling. Please take time to listen to this great message!

Chapter Three: "I've done a handbag campaign and a bunch of other things, but they all were a failure because everyone thought of me as that one thing.""

Palin to Romney-Ryan: 'Go Rogue' | The Weekly Standard: "America desperately needs to have a 'come to Jesus' moment..."

I like Sarah Palin, and if I would have been able to vote in 2008 she would have had my vote (although I would have preferred that she were running for president at the time, and John McCain were her running mate!)

And I totally agree that America need to 'Come to Jesus.' There is no other hope for this country. America needs to have a true Biblical revival like the one that swept through this country during The Great Awakening. Americans need to repent of their sins and demonstrate that repentance turning from sin and fleeing to our Lord Jesus Christ.

Like Nineveh of old, America may by running out of time very quickly. And if the current, or future president, were to respond to Palin's call for a 'Come to Jesus moment,' and say with the king of Nineveh:"

"Who can tell if God will turn and repent and turn away from his fierce anger than we perish not?" -Jonah 3:8

Then maybe God's response would be the same:

"And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil that he said he would do unto them, and did it not." - Jonah 3:9

But there is something very wrong  with a Christian telling a Mormon that America needs a 'Come to Jesus moment.' There are not two Jesus.' There is the Christian Jesus, as taught in the Bible, and there is the Mormon Jesus, that is taught in their religious books.

Will Science Disprove God's Existence? No.

Will Science Disprove God's Existence? No.:

Science cannot prove or disprove the existence of God. And even if it could, just knowing that God exists won't do anyone any good. That kind of knowledge has been called 'Devil knowledge,' after James 2:19, where it says:

"Thou believest that there is one God. Thou doest well. The devils also believe, and tremble." Devil Knowledge. The knowledge that the devil and his demons have about God that they will take to hell with them.

No, the only knowledge about God has to come with true faith in the person and work of our Lord Jesus Christ (See Romans 10:9,10).

But I do think that science can - and in fact, already has - disproved the myth of evolution. Just read Darwin Under the Microscope, by Dr. James P. Gills.

An Important Message from "The Street Preacher"

One of the things I try to do on this blog, as well as on my main website (My Gospel Project) is tell people about great sermons and audio messages I've been listening to.  I am really anxious to tell you about a message from a man who goes by the name, The Street Preacher.

When I first started to listen to this sermon, I have to admit I was put off by the tone of this man's voice. For some reason it just rubbed me the wrong way and after listening to him for about 5 minutes I turned it off.

But then I came back a few days later and listened again - and then again. And then again. I started to listen to what he was saying - and who he was saying it to (street people) and I got over my initial dislike of his voice. I hope you will too.

'Here is my challenge to you: If you like what you hear in this sermon, I would encourage you to share it with your friend, and maybe even go down on a street corner somewhere and play it for the people you meet down there.

Report: 25 Percent of Disability Benefits Improperly Awarded:

I think the about article is incorrect - I think the number of people getting on Social Security Disability - inappropriately - far exceeds 25%. I think it is probably closer to 50%.

I spent close to 9 years in prison, but for the 9 years prior to that I worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant in long term care and acute care (hospital) settings. I'm not an expert on medicine, but I have gotten to know real disabled people. And many of the people getting on Social Security Disability today have no business being on it.

What they need is a job. There are people in wheel chairs gainfully employees in every state in this country. The same is true with many other 'disabilities.'  There are many people on disability why are there because they do not want to work. They want to lay on the couch and watch movies on their big flat screen TV and play the latest video games on their new computers, while they text their friends on the smart phone. All of which they bought with their disability payments.

The Government is my Shepherd, I Need Not Work!

Social Security & Medicare - Where Does the Money Come From?

I was listening to a guy on talk radio today - I don't recall his name but he was filling in for Rush Limbaugh (a.k.a. El Rushbo!). Anyway, he asked the rhetorical question: "Where does the money for Social Security and Medicare come from? The Tooth Fairy or Santa Clause?"

Then he answers his own question by saying, "No, it comes from some other American!"

I know many will object to this. They will say that workers pay into Social Security today and they will get the money back when they retire. In other words, the theory goes, they are really getting back their own money.

It sounds good. But then most pyramids and ponzi schemes sound good at first glance.  The fact is that Americans who are paying into Social Security today are not going to see any of that money come back to them - especially if they have 10 or 20 years until they retire.

Of course, by that time America will be a socialist utopia where everything is free and no one has to have money anyway, so it is a mute point (And if you believe that, I'll buy you a one way ticket to Cuba!).

All these are the beginning of sorrows.

"Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name sake.

"And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall arise, and deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure to the end, the same shall be saved." - Matthew 24:6-13

Some Thoughts on the Antichrist

Yesterday's blog was on the Mark of the Beast, which, while I still believe is going to be a literal Mark people will be forced to receive to show their allegiance to a future demon possessed ruler the Bible calls Antichrist, I also admit that the following definition of the Mark of the Beast may be valid as well:
"Accepting Worldliness is taking the Mark of the Beast in every generation.' (Leon Morris). I think it goes without saying that the person who is already living his or her life in the service of the devil will have no objection to receiving his Mark.
Today I'd like to refer you to a sermon on the Antichrist himself. While I don't necessarily agree with everything this author says on this important matter, I nevertheless heartily recommend it to you:

The Antichrist: His lies, his kingdom and his Mark, by Joey Faust

How to Start an Underground Church - and Why

I take church attendance and church membership very seriously. The Bible says:
"Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as ye see the day approaching. For if we sin willfully, after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins." (Hebrews 10:25,26)
But I don't advocate that you just join the first (or second or third!) church you see.  In my Bible reading today I read I John 4:1, which says:
"Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets are gone out into the world..."
I am not a minister and I am not starting my own church. But there may come a time when Christians all over the globe will need to reevaluate the church they are in and seriously consider leaving (because the church they belong to has become apostate), or even starting their own church.  I think we are coming close to that time in America.
And so I want to refer you to a message by Richard Wurmbrand titled:

Harry Reid vs. the Bimbos

Harry Reid vs. The Bimbos:

(Excerpt from this article: "Love them or hate them, Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton 'create' plenty of jobs. Harry Reid? Not so much.")

Batman, Movies, and Murder!

Never listen to anyone who tells you, 'Do what I say and not what I do.' The Apostle Paul tells his readers, "Be ye followers of me, even as I follow Christ." (I Corinthians 11:1)
But if someone tells you they are struggling with a particular sin, and they want to warn you not to follow them, well, maybe you should listen to them.
Along with most of the people in America today, I am a child of the movies. I have not lived in a cave. I know who many of the movie stars of the past 50 years are. And I have watched way way too many movies. I'm not proud of that. And I'm not recommending you follow in my foot steps. But I want to be honest with you. I am striving to make a clean break with the television, and I have only went to 2 movies at a theater in the past 10 years.
But I want to take this opportunity to point you to a couple of godly men whom I believe you would do well to follow (because they follow christ!):

It is then that all peoples of the world will plead with world leaders to deliver them from this evil. The one thing every man fears is the unknown. When presented with this scenario, individual rights will be willingly relinquished for the guarantee of their well being granted to them by their world government." In an address to the Bilderberger organization meeting at Evian, France, on May 21, 1991. 45 Signs that China is Colonizing America

Here's an interesting article to check out: 45 Signs That China Is Colonizing America:

For years people have speculted why the United States does not seam to appear anywhere in the Bible, especially when it comes to prophecies surrounding the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.

For sure, there are many Americans who are mentioned in the Bible (see Psalms 14:1, Psalms 9:17, Psalms 11:5, etc.).  But especially when it comes to what the Bible says about the end times, many have wondered why the United States is not mentioned.

When the disciples of John the Baptists complained that the people were going to Jesus instead of him, John said: "He must increase but I must decrease." - John 3:30. I think the same thing could be said about America and China today: They must increase and we must decrease.

I think one of the reasons that America does not seam to be mentioned in the Bible is because America is going to cease to play a major role in world events as time gets closer to the end.  For example,  many people see an obvious reference to China in in the book of Revelation.

In Revelation 9:13-16 were are told about 4 angels which were bound in the river Euphrates and how that after they were loosed an army of 2 million were set free to 'slay the third part of men.' (vs. 9:16):

"And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God, saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great Euphrates. And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a mounth and a year, for to slay the third part of men. And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand (2 million)."

And in Revelation 16:12 we read "And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water therof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared."

There is only one nation on the planet that could field an army of 2 million soldiers - and they just happended to be 'east' of the Eurphrates. Coincidence, huh?

Let's Make A Dope Deal!

I have a confession to make: I have never seen any of the Cheech & Chong movies. I'm sure that revelation doesn't leave you gasping for breath, but I bring it up because, while I have never seen any of the Cheech & Chong movies, I am old enough to remember their audio cassettes that came out in the 1970s.

One of their skits was titled Let's Make a Dope Deal.  This was a parody of the popular game show Let's Make a Deal, only the 'prize' the the contestants were after - behind the three windows - was drugs (and of course, if you chose the wrong window, well, you get 'busted!').

It was a very humorous tape for a teenage boy who grew up in the country and had only been to a big city once or twice in his life - and that with his parents!

But I recall one day my parents were invited to spend Thanksgiving or Christmas with a relative who lived in a very large city. They had a teenage daughter - I think she was probably my second cousin - who lived at home with them.

One of my brothers and I were listening to the Cheech and Chong tape, Let's Make a Dope Deal, and my cousin (second cousin?) over heard it and asked if she could borrow it.  We said 'sure.'

Later I learned that my cousin was already heavily addicted to drugs. In fact, her addiction got so bad that at one point her parents had to kick her out of the house and lock the door to keep her from coming back inside!

That's been over 30 years ago, and I have no idea what ever became of my cousin. I had only met her once or twice before this at family gatherings, and I don't think I have seen her since that date.

I thought about this recently when I came across the following story: CIA Manages Drug Trade.  For people who do not subscribe to the conspiratorial theory of history (see Gary Allen's book None Dare Call it Conspiracy), reading an article like this can be unsettling. In fact, I have no doubt that many will reject the notion that the CIA is involved in the drug trade.

The CIA (and other government agencies, not the least of which is the United States military) are trying desperately to stop drugs from coming into this country. Or so we are told. I'm sorry but I don't believe it.

People who sell illegal drugs - and those who use them - are pawns in the hands of the wealthy elite who want to destroy America and surrender our sovereignty to a world government under the United Nations.

When that happens, the drug trade will stop. But don't expect much progress while the stars and stripes are still flying high!

See my post I Want to Get High

I Want to Get High!

Imagine for a moment that you were at a public place - say a library - and you saw your 13 year old daughter hanging out with some of her classmates.  You decide to go over and say hi, but as you get closer you overhear the following conversation:

Your daughter: "I want to get high!"
Classmate #1 "Oh, that's right. You've never been high before."
Classmate #2 "I'll get high with you."

I was at the library recently and I overheard that conversation between 3 middle school girls - I'm guessing they were in 7th or 8th grade. I remember when I was that age I was getting high on a regular basis. My drug of choice was gasoline -sniffing or 'huffing' gas was a regular part of my life at that age.

The dangerous thing about drugs is not what it might do to your health. There are many legal things you can do to ruin your health without taking illegal drugs.  You can over eat and get heart disease. You can under eat and starve yourself. You can work yourself to death (literally!). You can speed and drive recklessly in a car or a motorcycle.

The real danger of drugs can be summed up in 9 letters: A.D.D.I.C.T.I.O.N.  Many drugs are addictive and it is the addictive aspect of drugs that make them so dangerous.  The Bible says:

"His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins." Proverbs 5:22

A lot of scientific studies has been done on addictions, and very educated people can go into great detail about the 'biochemical aspects' of this problem. Many of the 12 step programs call their addictions a 'disease.' I don't believe that.

Addictions, are first and foremost, a spiritual problem.  And therefore the solution to addictions must be spiritual as well.

Years ago I was working night shift in the psyche ward at the hospital I had been working at, and I saw a poster on the wall with the poem titled Miss Heroin.  I want to end part one of this series on addictions with this poem:

So now, little man (young lady), you've grown tired of grass
LSD, acid cocaine and hash,
and someone pretending to be a true friend,
said, 'I'll introduce you to Miss Heroin.'

Well honey, before you start fooling with me,
just let me inform you of how it will be.
For I will seduce you and make you my slave
I've sent men (and women) much stronger than you to their grave.

You think you could never become a disgrace
and wind up addicted to poppyseed waste?
So you'll start inhaling me one afternoon,
you'll take me into your arms very soon.

And once I've entered deep down in your veins,
the craving will nearly drive you insane.
You'll swindle your mother and just for a buck,
you'll turn into something vile and corrupt.

You'll mug and you'll steal for my narcotic charm
and feel contentment when I'm in your arms.
The day when you realize the monster you've grown
you'll solemnly promise to leave me alone.

If you think you've got the mystical knack
then sweetie just try getting me off your back.
The vomit, the cramps, your gut tied in knots,
The jangling nerves screaming for just one more shot.

The hot chills and cold sweats and withdrawal pains,
can only be saved by my little white grains.
There's no other way, there's no need to look,
for deep down inside you will know you are hooked.

You'll desperately run to your pusher and then,
you'll welcome me back to your arms once again.
And when you've returned, just as I foretold!
I know that you'll give me your body and soul.

You'll give up your morals your conscience your heart,
and you will be mine until 'death do us part!'

Signing My Release Papers - The Final Insult!

If you have followed this blog for any length of time, you know that I served just short of 9 years in prison. If you are new to My Gospel Project, you may wish to look over some of my blog archives on the left of the screen. Just like life on the outside, life in prison is a mixture of positive and negative experiences - at least for me, it was. And some of the things I write about in this blog are taken from a diary I kept for the entire time I was locked up (just short of 9 years).
Today I want to briefly share with you what it was like to sign my release papers.  This is something you do a couple of days before you are official released from prison.  It was a very cold day when I saw my name on the call out to go down to records to sign my release papers.  I think it was about 15 degrees out.
I did not know exactly where to go to sign my release papers, so I asked a guard - excuse me, a corrections officer (they don't like being called gaurds!). He told me to go back to my unit and reread the call out sheet. So I did. The building I needed to go to was about 30 feet away from where the corrections officer was standing. Instead of treating me like a human being, and saying "The builing you're looking for is right over there," he chose to have me walk back to my unit - in 15 degree weather - to reread the call out sheet.
When I got to the place to sign my release papers, I had to wait, along with a couple of other inmates, outside in the cold while they took us into the office - one at a time - to sign our release papers.  I was second in line, and there was one more man behind me.  We had our state issued coats on but it was still extremely cold out.
When my turn finally came to go into the office to sign my release papers, one of the female staff said to her coworker, "Boy, it is really cold in here!" When she said that, I turned and looked at the other inmate standing out in the 15 degree weather and I just shook my head. We were not human beings to these people. We were not even cattle.  We were like the Jews in World War II, and these people were the Gestapo.

Carrie Underwood Endorses Gay Marraige

One of the very first posts I made on this site was titled "Why Jesus didn't take the wheel." This was just some thoughts on Contemporary Christian Musician Carrie Underwood's song, Jesus Take the Wheel. As I said in that post I like Carrie's song, but I wanted to point out that just because Jesus allows personal tragedy to come our way, it doesn't mean he he doesn't have his hand on the wheel.

I was disappointed to learn that Carrie Underwood, who has such a fan base among young Christians, has come out in favor of gay marriage. In the article Carrie Underwood Supports Gay Marriage, she says:

"Above all, God wanted us to love others. It's not about setting rules or [saying] 'everyone has to be like me'..We have to love each other and get along with each other. It's not up to me to judge anybody..."

She's right about one thing: it is not up to her to judge anybody. That is Jesus' job. And as the Bible says the day is coming when  "God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ..." (Romans 2:16)  And for practicing non-repentant homosexuals, our Lord Jesus is going to Judge them out of the book, the book being the Bible, specifically Romans 1:26,27 & 32:

"For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: and likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseamly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet...Who knowing the judgment of God,  that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them."

The Bible says, "...be not many masters, knowing we shall receive the greater condemnation." (James 3:1) God is going to hold ministers of the gospel to a higher standard than those who don't hold that office. But our Lord Jesus says that all of us are going to give account of 'every idle word' we speak.  Our Lord Jesus says:

"But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak they shall give account therof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified and by thy words thou shalt be condemned."

As a 'Christian blogger,' I feel that responsibility.  I know that every idle word that I publish on this site I am going to be held accountable for by my Lord Jesus. But the same thing is true for Christian musicians like Carrie Underwood. Please Carrie, reread Romans One, repent, and retract what you said about gay marriage.

Mormonism, Catholicism, or our Lord Jesus Christ?

The President of Fuller Theological Seminary says Evangelicals need to listen to Mormons (see Rich Mouw on Why Evangelicals Need to Be Quick to to Listen to Mormons).

"I think Evangelicals need to listen to anyone who confesses that Jesus Christ is Lord - and by that confession they mean what the Protestant Church has meant for the past 500 years - namely that Jesus Christ is God, co-equal and co-eternal with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. And that Jesus Christ is the only 'name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved."

If a religion fails to meet those 2 basic criteria, Evangelicals would do well to listen to the advice of John:

"If there come unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him godspeed, for he that biddeth him godspeed is partaker of his evil deeds." II John 10,11

100 Years from Now, Will it Matter...?

"And the waitress is practicing politics,
as the businessman slowly gets stone.
They're sharing a drink they call loneliness,
but it's better than drinking alone."
-from The Piano Man, by Billy Joel

This year, 2012, is turning out to be a very busy year for Americans. Beside just trying to keep food on the table and a roof over our heads, many people are spending much of their free time following the news and rooting for their particular candidates and political parties. If you follow My Gospel Project, you will see that I also spend a lot of time following the news and politics (See Today in the News).

And while that is not a bad thing - we should be concerned about what is going on in the world around us - it is too easy to fill up our lives with the 'non-essentials' and let the important things be left undone.

Ask yourself these questions: One hundred years from now, will it matter to you who was elected President of the United States in 2012? Will it matter if Obamacare was overturned or if the Social Security Administration goes broke?

One hundred years from now, will it matter to you if the United States has finally burned up its constitution and has replaced our flag with one issued to us from the United Nations?

Probably not. Most of us will be dead within a hundred years.  I have already outlived 2 of my brothers, and while my doctor tells me I am in pretty good health (for my age!), I know that I will not live another hundred years.

Let me share with you what will matter - to you - one hundred years from now: The Bible! And the Bible says:

"Now learn a parable of the fig tree; when his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: so likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. Verily I say unto you, this generation shall not pass till all these things be fulfilled. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away." - Matthew 24:32-35

What will matter to you most one hundred years from now is what the Bible says in Hebrews 9:27:

"And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment."

If you are like me and you make To Do lists every day, please let me suggest that you put this right at the top of your To Do list:

To Do

This sermon is based on Acts 16:30,31:

"And brought them out and said, 'Sirs, what must I do to be saved?' 'And they said, 'Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.'

Latter day Puritan, Dr. Martin Lloyd Jones, gave this timeless advice:

"Stop and ask yourself: 'What am I doing?' You will be dead long before this world will ever be put right. What therefore will happen to you?'

And another latter day Puritan, Charles Haddon Spurgeon, said:

"Look! Look! Look with solemn eye through the shades that part us from the world of spirits, and see that house of misery which me call hell! ...Remember that in that place there are spirits forever paying their debt to divine justice; but though some of them have been for these 4000 years sweltering in the flames, they are no nearer a discharge than when they began. And when 10,000 x 10,000 years shall have rolled away, they will no more have made satisfaction to God for their guilt than they have done up to now."
