Why Do So Many Preachers in America Refuse to Talk About Hell?

Why Do So Many Preachers in America Refuse to Talk About Hell? - endoftheamericandream.com

Excerpt from this article:

"When was the last time you heard a sermon about hell?  ... there are some very well-known ministers in this country that purposely avoid ever using the word 'hell' because it might offend someone.  It turns out that 'happy church' can be a very lucrative business model, and many people seem to love the 'me first' prosperity gospel that has infected virtually all of the major denominations at this point....The Apostle Paul wrote about a time when lukewarm believers would surround themselves with preachers that would tell them exactly what their itching ears want to hear.  This is what 2 Timothy 4:3-4 says in the Modern English Version
For the time will come when people will not endure sound doctrine, but they will gather to themselves teachers in accordance with their own desires, having itching ears, and they will turn their ears away from the truth and turn to myths.
Is this not precisely what is happening in the western world today?"

It has to be pointed out that just believing in a literal hell, as I do, is not enough to escape going there some day. A fear of hell won't save anyone, but the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, and faith in his finished work on the cross will save the worst of sinners.

Here are a few ministers who still preach the gospel and the truth about a literal hell:

They That Are in Hell Are in Despair, by Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758)
Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God, by Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758)
Compel Them to Come In, by Charles Spurgeon (1834-1892)
The Holocaust of Hell, by Dr. David Murray
A Coffin, a Grave, and an Eternity, by E. A. Johnston
How to Benefit from a Funeral, by Dr. David P. Murray
The Burning Hell That Jesus Preached, by Dr. Ian R. K. Paisley
Final Judgment Before the Great White Throne, by Dr. Joel Beeke
