Thought 2:

"For we must consider that we shall be as a City upon a hill. The eyes of all people are upon us. Soe that if we shall deal falsely with our God in this work we have undertaken, and so cause him to withdraw his present help from us, we shall be made a story and a byword throughout the world." - John Winthrop (1588-1649) Note: John Winthrop wrote this in 1630 (Source)

Thoughts 3:

"It's like another pastor who came to me once and he said, 'But the word day can mean something other than an ordinary day.' And I said, 'Well, that's true. But it can also mean an ordinary day.' He said, 'But it can mean something other than an ordinary day.' I said, 'Of course it can. 'But it can also can an ordinary day.' He said, 'But it can mean something other than an ordinary...' This went on for millions of years, it was incredible!" - Ken Ham, Six Days and the Eisegesis Problem

"So to work out his own salvation with fear and trembling. They who live in sin, however, work out their own damnation, and that many times without fear or trembling. But they will have a great store of these when they come to receive their just doom and damnation. Time is a most precious commodity, for eternity depends upon the moment." - Ralph Venning, (1621-1674) The Sinfulness of Sin

Thought 5 (From the Bible):

Moon Fuel: A New Multi-Trillion Dollar Treasure

Moon Fuel: A New Multi-Trillion Dollar Treasure - zerohedge.com

Excerpt from this article:

"India's space program wants to go where no nation has gone before - to the south side of the moon. And once it gets there, it will study the potential for mining a source of waste-free nuclear energy that could be worth trillions of dollars."

Earth First! (We'll Drill the Other Planets Later!)

Recommended sermon:

Moon Madness! by Dr. Ian R. K. Paisley (1926-2014)

The text for this sermon is Ecclesiastes 7:29 (Audio)

"Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions."

Note: The late Dr. Paisley preached Moon Madness on July 27th, 1969. That was just 7 days after America became the first nation to (allegedly!) land astronauts on the moon. I say 'allegedly', only because I'm not 100% convinced it happened (I'm about 97% convinced it happened, just not 100%!)

My 3% of doubt stems from the fact that America - and only America - sent astronauts to the moon (and back!) 6 times between 1969 and 1972. And no one has ever gone back to the moon. If and when that happens, my 3% doubt will probably disappear, but for now, I'm still only 97% convinced we actually landed on the moon.

On a side note, I watched the first moon landing live on TV in 1969.  But that is not where I get my 97% belief that it actually happened from. No, I got to know one of the NASA managers who worked on the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969. After he retired from NASA he went into the ministry, and he says that he knows we landed on the moon because he was closely involved with the whole process from beginning to end.

4 Thought-Provoking Quotes for Friday, June 29, 2018

Photo by Filip Zrnzević on Unsplash
Thought 1:

"A Methodist minister once went to hear a Presbyterian minister preach. After the sermon, the Methodist said to the Presbyterian, 'That was a pretty good Arminian sermon you preached today.' 'Yes,' replied the Presbyterian, 'We Presbyterians are good Arminians when we preach, and you Methodists are good Calvinists when you pray.'" - Dr. C. D. Cole, The Bible Doctrine of Election

Recommended sermons:

Eternal Decree of Election, by Rev. Cornelis (Neil) Pronk
Objections to Election Answered, by Rev. Cornelis (Neil) Pronk
The Decree of Reprobation, by Rev. Cornelis (Neil) Pronk
Thought 2:

"Justice also respects the responsibility of the needy person. Justice says that a person who chooses to be poor should be allowed to have what he chooses. Nor will justice allow us - for loves sake - to assume responsibility for other people's mistakes. If my neighbor goes deeply into debt for luxuries he bought with his credit card, and then habitually expects me to pay his heating bill, justice holds back the hand of love. If my neighbors business is on the verge of ruin because he is incompetent and lazy, justice may require love to let his business fail, and then help him find another line of work." - Lewis Smedes, Mere Morality - What God Expects From Ordinary People

Thoughts 3 a & b:

3a: "In America, an acquittal doesn't mean you're innocent, it means you beat the rap. My clients lose even when they win." - F. Lee Baily (Source)

3b: "As a young lawyer from the books that I'd read, I thought justice and law were the same.
But I soon put such juvenile thoughts from my head, and I studied the rules of the game," (Source unknown)

Thought 4 (From the Bible):

"For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless, I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I've committed unto him against that day." - 2 Timothy 1:12 (Audio)
