Why Do Bad Things Happen? By Pastor Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892)

"It is today as it was in the Reformers’ days. Decision is needed. Here is the day for the man, where is the man for the day? We who have had the gospel passed to us by martyr hands dare not trifle with it, nor sit by and hear it denied by traitors, who pretend to love it, but inwardly abhor every line of it….Look you, sirs, there are ages yet to come. If the Lord does not speedily appear, there will come another generation, and another, and all these generations will be tainted and injured if we are not faithful to God and to His truth today. We have come to a turning-point in the road. If we turn to the right, mayhap our children and our children’s children will go that way; but if we turn to the left, generations yet unborn will curse our names for having been unfaithful to God and His Word." (From The Forgotten Spurgeon, by Iain Mur

Israel Now News - Episode 422 - Latest News from Israel - Yochanan Elrom

I'm not Jewish - by birth or religious persuasion. And I'm not a dispensationalist, so I don't share that particular viewpoint with regards to the current state of Israel. But I respect the people that are often featured on this news program because they believe the Old Testament.

Two prophecies that I see either being fulfilled now or in the near future are are these:

The great falling away or apostasy 2 Thessalonians 2:3,4a:

"Let no man deceive you by any means, but that day shall not come unless there come a falling away first, and the man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition, who opposeth and exalteth himself above God."- 2 Thessalonians 2:3,4a (Audio)

For more on this "Falling Away", check out the following podcast by Pastor Kevin Swanson:

And the national conversion of the Jews, which Paul talks about in Romans 11:25,26a (Audio).

The Bible says:

"For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel until the fulness of the Gentiles come in. And so all Israel shall be saved..." - Romans 11:25,26a (Audio)

Recommended sermons:

The 70 Weeks  Prophecy, by Rev. John Sawtelle [Text: Daniel 9:20-27 (Audio)]

There are many who believe we may be very close to the time when this "blindness" is lifted and Jews all over the world will accept our Lord Jesus as their long-awaited Messiah! And when that happens - and it will happen! - the following Jewish hymn may be slightly rewritten so it could be included in our Christian hymnbooks - Minyan Man

To your future, to your children and your grandchildren. What they are doing is with malice and with forethought."  (Source)

Westminster Shorter Catechism (WSC) Q & A #31-#33 (1646,1647)

#31 Question: What is effectual calling?

Answer: Effectual calling is the work of God’s Spirit, whereby, convincing us of our sin and misery, enlightening our minds in the knowledge of Christ, and renewing our wills, he doth persuade and enable us to embrace Jesus Christ, freely offered to us in the gospel.

#32 Question: What benefits do they that are effectually called partake of in this life?

Answer: They that are effectually called do in this life partake of justification, adoption, and sanctification, and the several benefits which in this life do either accompany or flow from them.

 #33 Question: What is justification?

Answer: Justification is an act of God’s free grace, wherein he pardoneth all our sins, and accepteth us as righteous in his sight, only for the righteousness of Christ imputed to us, and received by faith alone.

"'But, brother,' said Mr. Great-Heart, 'I have it in my commission to 'comfort the feeble-minded,' and 'to support the weak.'  You must needs go along with us: we will wait for you; we will lend you our help; we will deny ourselves some of the things, both opinionate and practical, for your sake; we will not enter into 'doubtful disputations' before you; we will be 'made all things' to you, rather than you shall be left behind."  - John Bunyan (1628-1688).
