Deeds in the Dark

Deeds in the Dark, by Rev. Ian Brown

The text for this sermon is Ezekiel 8:8,12 (Audio)

"Then said he unto me, Son of man, dig now in the wall: and when I had digged in the wall, behold a door...Then said he unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen what the ancients of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the chambers of his imagery? for they say, The LORD seeth us not; the LORD hath forsaken the earth."

U.S. Dept. of Treasury Needs $1 Trillion to Finance the Debt This Year

U.S. Dept. of Treasury Needs $1 Trillion to Finance the Debt This Year - thenewamerican.com

Excerpt from this article:

"The government of the United States will soon borrow up to  $1 trillion in order that it can finance the national debt, which totals nearly $22 trillion"
----------------------------

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing, always to be followed by a dictatorship and then a monarchy." (Source)

"You should view these politicians with the deepest contempt you can possibly imagine. What they are doing to this country, what they are doing to our finances - there is not a criminal in any federal prison, state prison, city or county jail with respect to financial crimes of any sort who collectively could have done the kind of damage that Barack Obama and Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi and yes, willing, timid, gutless Republicans have done to this country! To your future, to your children and your grandchildren. What they are doing is with malice and with forethought."  (Source)

"If you knew that you could live in luxury for the rest of your life but that by doing so it would absolutely destroy the future of your children, your grandchildren, and your great-grandchildren, would you do it? Well, that is exactly what we are doing as a nation. Over the past several decades we have stolen $15 trillion dollars from future generations so that we could enjoy a dramatically inflated level of prosperity. Our 15 trillion dollar party has been a lot of fun, but what we have done to our children and our grandchildren has been beyond criminal. We ran up the greatest mountain of debt in the history of the planet and we are sticking them with the bill. Sadly, both political parties have been responsible for the big spending that has been going on (Source)

Quote 3 The following advice to pastors comes from a sermon by Dr. David P. Murray (Flee, Fight, Follow). Dr. Murray says that he first heard this from Pastor John MacArthur.

How a Man Becomes A Man of God

"Fling him into his office. Then tear the office sign from his door, and replace it with a sign that says, 'Study.' Take him off the mailing list. Lock him up with his books, and his typewriter, and his Bible.
Slam him down on his knees before texts and broken hearts and the lives of a superficial flock and a Holy God. Force him to be the one man in the community who knows about God. Throw him into the ring to box with God until he learns how short his arms are. Engage him to wrestle with God all the night through, and let him come out only when he's bruised and beaten into being a blessing. Shut his mouth from forever spouting remarks and stop his tongue from forever tripping lightly over every nonessential. Require him to have something to say before he breaks his silence. Burn his eyes with weary study. Wreck his emotional poise with worry for the things of God. Make him exchange his pious stance for a humble walk with God and man. Make him spend and be spent for the glory of God. Rip out his telephone. Burn up his success sheets. Put water in his gas tank. Give him a Bible and tie him to the pulpit. Test him. Quiz him. Examine him. Humiliate him for his ignorance of things divine. Shame him for his good comprehension of finance, batting averages, and political party issues. Laugh at his frustrated effort to play psychiatrist. Form a choir, raise a chant, and haunt him night and day with 'Sir, we would know God!' When at long last he does assay the pulpit, ask him if he has a word from God.  If he doesn't, dismiss him. Tell him you can read the paper yourself. You can digest the television commentary. You can think through the day's superficial problems, and manage the weary drives of the community and bless the assorted baked potatoes and green beans better than he can. When he does speak God's Word, listen. And when he's burned out finally by the flaming Word, consumed by the fiery grace blazing through him, and when he's privileged to translate the truth of God to man and finally has himself transferred from earth to heaven, wave him away gently. Blow a muted trumpet. Lay him down softly. Place a two-edged sword in his coffin. And raise the tune triumphant. For before he died, he had become a man of God!"

Quote 1:

"Hard metallic transistors can function as switches in electronics, but in living cells switches are made from extraordinarily complex pathways and interactions utilizing highly specified protein molecules...Remarkable Discovery--Cell Systems Can Implement Logic! Researches' careful observation of E. Coli bacteria in the 1960s gave clues to how these protein switches operate. Normally, the bacteria in the study would break down the sugar glucose for energy. But when glucos was withheld and another sugar, lactose, was introduced, the bacteria started making the necessary enzymes to metabolize lactose. Analysis of this phenomenon revealed  a system consisting of a sensor for lactose, an internal logic-based  selection mechanism for 'glucose-or-lactose,' and output responses to produce the suitable enzyme to break down lactose."

Global Inequality Explodes: 26 Ultra-Wealthy Billionaires Now Have As Much Money as Poorest  3.8 Billion People - thedailysheeple.com

Excerpt from this article:

"Today, almost half the world lives on less than $5.50 a day, and approximately 795 million people 'do not have enough food.' And even in a 'wealthy country' like the United States, the gap between the rich and the poor is the largest that it has been since the 1920s, and more than half a million Americans are homeless right now."
----------------------

The following quote is from the late Dr. Louis Smede (1921-2002):

"Maybe the prophets wanted the rich to invite the poor into their homes, maybe they wanted the poor to be befriended and supported by gentle arms of friends. Maybe friendliness. But at least justice, at least the rights of the poor respected."

And

"A baby born, through no choice of her own, into a poverty stricken family has a right to nourishing food, a warm bed, and loving care. But as she grows, she also has a need to flourish as a human being. She needs education and books, music, access to dentists and doctors, and a chance to develope her gifts for creative work."

Where We Are: Bulletproof Backpacks for High School Students Will Hit the Shelves in February

Where We Are: Bulletproof Backpacks for High School Students Will Hit the Shelves in February - redstate.com

Excerpt from this article:

Mass shootings have penetrated U.S. headlines for quite some time (hereherehereherehere, and here). While the debate over gun control and pistol-packing teachers rages on (here), a completely different solution emerges.
So here we go...
-----------------------------------------------

Dr. Peter Hammond had this to say about gun control:

"You may not like guns, and you may not like God. But if someone is breaking into your house, the first thing you're going to do is call someone who has a gun. And the second thing you're going to do is pray that they arrived before it's too late!" - From the podcast by Dr. Peter Hammond, The Holocaust in Rwanda

The New School Prayer

Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.
If Scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a Federal matter now.
Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That’s no offence; it’s a freedom scene.
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.
For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all.
In silence alone we must meditate,
God’s name is prohibited by the state.
We’re allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.
They’ve outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.
We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the ‘unwed daddy,’ our Senior King.
It’s “inappropriate” to teach right from wrong,
We’re taught that such “judgments” do not belong.
We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.
It’s scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school’s a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; My soul please take!
Amen
