The Daily Spurgeon - Friday, February 28, 2014

Quotes by Pastor Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834 - 1892)

"My brother, I entreat you, I entreat you stop and consider. Do you know what it is you are rejecting this morning? You are rejecting Christ, your only Saviour. 'Other foundation can no man lay;' 'there is none other name given among men whereby we must be saved.' My brother, I cannot bear that ye should do this, for I remember what you are forgetting: the day is coming when you will want a Saviour. It is not long ere weary months shall have ended, and your strength begin to decline; your pulse shall fail you, your strength shall depart, and you and the grim monster—death, must face each other. What will you do in the swellings of Jordan without a Saviour? Death-beds are stony things without the Lord Jesus Christ. It is an awful thing to die anyhow; he that hath the best hope, and the most triumphant faith, finds that death is not a thing to laugh at. It is a terrible thing to pass from the seen to the unseen, from the mortal to the immortal, from time to eternity, and you will find it hard to go through the iron gates of death without the sweet wings of angels to conduct you to the portals of the skies. It will be a hard thing to die without Christ. I cannot help thinking of you. I see you acting the suicide this morning, and I picture myself standing at your bedside and hearing your cries, and knowing that you are dying without hope. I cannot bear that. I think I am standing by your coffin now, and looking into your clay-cold face, and saying. 'This man despised Christ and neglected the great salvation.' I think what bitter tears I shall weep then, if I think that I have been unfaithful to you, and how those eyes fast closed in death, shall seem to chide me and say, 'Minister, I attended the music hall, but you were not in earnest with me; you amused me, you preached to me, but you did not plead with me. You did not know what Paul meant when he said, 'As though God did beseech you by us we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.'"- From Spurgeon's Sermon Compel Them to Come In

Read the Whole Bible in 2014! Friday, February 28, 2014

I'm going to try to read through the whole Bible this year. Why don't you join me? There are many different websites that offer reading plans to read the Bible in a year. The one I chose is Read the KJV Bible in One Year. So for today, let's read Chapters 1-4 in the book of 1 Corinthians.

Special verse(s):

1 Corinthians 1

"For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God." - 1 Corinthians 1:18

"But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;" - I Corinthians 1:27

1 Corinthians 2

"But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory." - 1 Corinthians 2:7,8

"But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." - 1 Corinthians 2:14
1 Corinthians 3

"For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire." - 1 Corinthians 3:11-15

1 Corinthians 4

"Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful." - 1 Corinthians 4:2

The Daily Spurgeon - Thursday, February 27, 2014

Quotes by Pastor Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834 - 1892)

"I know not what arguments to use with you. I appeal to your own self-interests. Oh my poor friend, would it not be better for you to be reconciled to the God of heaven, than to be his enemy? What are you getting by opposing God? Are you the happier for being his enemy? Answer, pleasure-seeker; hast thou found delights in that cup? Answer me, self-righteous man: hast thou found rest for the sole of thy foot in all thy works? Oh thou that goest about to establish thine own righteousness, I charge thee let conscience speak. Hast thou found it to be a happy path? Ah, my friend, "Wherefore dost thou spend thy money for that which is not bread, and thy labour for that which satisfieth not; hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness." I exhort you by everything that is sacred and solemn, everything that is important and eternal, flee for your lives, look not behind you, stay not in all the plain, stay not until you have proved, and found an interest in the blood of Jesus Christ, that blood which cleanseth us from all sin." - From Spurgeon's Sermon Compel Them to Come In

The Surprising Way to Shift the Abortion Debate: Science!

The Surprising Way to Shift the Abortion Debate: Science! - pocketfullofliberty.com

Excerpt from this article:

"While in my life I am personally pro-life, I also have friends and family that I love who are not.  I do not spend my days believing I can’t love and cherish these people even though we don’t agree on abortion.  The upside for the pro life movement is that they should recognize they’re winning. 7 out of 10 people support restrictions on late term abortions.  Wendy Davis’s campaign appears to be spontaneously aborting.  New technology is making it evident that what you believed in your heart is very true in images that are undeniably human babies."
-------------------------------------------------------------

To those who are considering having an abortion, the Bible says: "Thou shalt not kill." - Exodus 20:13

To those who have had an abortion, and are feeling bad about it, the Bible says: "Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world." - John 1:29, and "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." - 1 John 1:9

And to the doctors performing abortions, the Bible says: "These six things doth the Lord hate ... hands that shed innocent blood..." - Proverbs 6:16,17

The Daily Spurgeon - Wednesday, February 26, 2014

Quotes by Pastor Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834 - 1892)

"Do you still refuse it? Then I must change my tone a minute. I will not merely tell you the message, and invite you as I do with all earnestness, and sincere affection—I will go further. Sinner, in God's name I command you to repent and believe. Do you ask me whence my authority? I am an ambassador of heaven. My credentials, some of them secret, and in my own heart; and others of them open before you this day in the seals of my ministry, sitting and standing in this hall, where God has given me many souls for my hire. As God the everlasting one hath given me a commission to preach his gospel, I command you to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ; not on my own authority, but on the authority of him who said, 'Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature;' and then annexed this solemn sanction, 'He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved, but he that believeth not shall be damned.'"- From Spurgeon's Sermon Compel Them to Come In

Read the Whole Bible in 2014! Wednesday, February 26, 2014

Special verse(s):

Romans 11

"O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counselor? Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?"
 - Romans 11:33-35

Romans 12

"...not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly..." - Romans 12:3

"Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good." - Romans 12:9

"Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord..." - Romans 12:11

"Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not." - Romans 12:14

"If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men." - Romans 12:18

"Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord." - Romans 12:19

Romans 13

"Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:  For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honor. Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.  Romans 13:1-8

"And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed." - Romans 13:11

Planned Parenthood is a business that relies on women and girls getting pregnant. And as good business people, they - Planned Parenthood - need to do what they can to keep the business flowing. But for them to promote BDSM to teens (in the hopes that they will get pregnant and need an abortion!!!) is sort of like Playboy marketing clothing with its logo on it to young girls (I would say, See:  "Flirting in the Danger Zone: Is Playboy Really Marketing to Teens?", but I can't find the link. I think it was a TV news show I saw years back)

I don't know what's in these "33,000 Pages," but if you are interested (and I hope you are!), I think you can find out some of the things by reading the following 2 books:

High Crimes and Misdemeanors: The Case Against Bill Clinton, by Ann Coulter
The Final Days: The Last Desperate Abuses of Power by the Clinton White House, by Barbara Olson

I would guess if you are planning to vote for Hilary Clinton in 2016, you may change your mind after reading these 2 books. Otherwise, you may wind up like one of the many disappointed voters who put Barack Obama into the White House (See: This is Not the President Obama We Voted For).

The Daily Spurgeon - Tuesday, February 25, 2014

Quotes by Pastor Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834 - 1892)

"Unconverted, unreconciled, unregenerate men and women, I am to COMPEL YOU TO COME IN. Permit me first of all to accost you in the highways of sin and tell you over again my errand. The King of heaven this morning sends a gracious invitation to you. He says, 'As I live, saith the Lord, I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, but had rather that he should turn unto me and live:' 'Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord, though your sins be as scarlet they shall be as wool; though they be red like crimson they shall be whiter than snow.' Dear brother, it makes my heart rejoice to think that I should have such good news to tell you, and yet I confess my soul is heavy because I see you do not think it good news, but turn away from it, and do not give it due regard. Permit me to tell you what the King has done for you. He knew your guilt, he foresaw that you would ruin yourself. He knew that his justice would demand your blood, and in order that this difficulty might be escaped, that his justice might have its full due, and that you might yet be saved, Jesus Christ hath died. Will you just for a moment glance at this picture. You see that man there on his knees in the garden of Gethsemane, sweating drops of blood. You see this next: you see that miserable sufferer tied to a pillar and lashed with terrible scourges, till the shoulder bones are seen like white islands in the midst of a sea of blood. Again you see this third picture; it is the same man hanging on the cross with hands extended, and with feet nailed fast, dying, groaning, bleeding; methought the picture spoke and said, 'It is finished.' Now all this hath Jesus Christ of Nazareth done, in order that God might consistently with his justice pardon sin; and the message to you this morning is this—'Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.'" - From Spurgeon's Sermon Compel Them to Come In

Read the Whole Bible in 2014! Tuesday, February 25, 2014

I'm going to try to read through the whole Bible this year. Why don't you join me? There are many different websites that offer reading plans to read the Bible in a year. The one I chose is Read the KJV Bible in One Year. So for today, let's read 8 - 10 in the book of Romans.

Special verse(s):

Romans 8

"There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit."  - Romans 8:1

"And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us." - Romans 8:17,18

"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." - Romans 8:28

"For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified."

"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." - Romans 8:38,39

Romans 9

"(For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)  It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger. As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated. What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid. For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy. For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth. Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth. Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will? Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?  Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour? What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory," - Romans 9:11-23 (For a commentary on these verses, see my post: Predestination)

Romans 10

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." -Romans 10:9,10

"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." - Romans 10:13

"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." - Romans 10:17

Selena Gomez Shares Bible Verse from Genesis 12

Headlines: Selena Gomez Instagram Photo Shares Bible Verse from Genesis 12: Reveals Singer Studying Hillsong Pastor's Devotional Book - christianpost.com

Excerpt from this article:

"Amid rumors swirling about what prompted her trip last month to rehab, Selena Gomez has posted a picture of a Bible passage on her Instagram account on Wednesday.  The singer/actress highlighted a passage from Genesis 12:2 which reads, 'I will make you a great nation; I will bless you/ And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing.' Along with the verse, Gomez wrote, 'He will bless me w/ great gifts,' drawing an arrow from the text to imply she would share those blessings 'with others.'
---------------------------------------------------------

I've never met Selena Gomez - probably never will. We don't exactly travel in the same circles. But I feel a kinship with her, just the same, if for no other reason than we both struggle with problems of addiction (See my post: Alcoholics Anonymous in the Crosshairs!).

And I wish her the best, both with rehab, and her study of the Bible.  But I have to agree with Pastors David McManus and Joey Kellett that just because a person pulls a verse out of the Bible and posts in on the Internet, that doesn't necessarily mean that verse is going to come true for them (see their podcast:   Selena Gomez Quotes from the Bible).

But I'm a little more optimistic for Selena than maybe these two pastors are.  At least she felt compelled to warn her 'tween' fans not to watch one of her more raunchy movies (See: Selena Gomez Warn Pre-teens Don't See Spring Breakers). At least she recognizes (unlike Miley Cyrus!), that her movies might have a negative impact on her younger fans.

But Selena is right about one thing: the Bible does talk about blessings. It talks a lot about blessings. But it also talks about curses. And if I could recommend one sermon for Selena Gomez it would be the following:

Mainstream Finally Admits Planet is Cooling! - dailysheeple.com

Excerpt from this article:
A study by the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory has concluded that the solar cycle and volcanic activity both have a cooling effect on the planet. The report appears in the Journal: Nature Geoscience.
This admission from mainstream scientists that even though greenhouse gases in the atmosphere are rising, the temperatures at the surface are not, is a major blow to the theory of  global warming. It may not seem like much, but it’s a big deal. This study proves that the heat that would be generated by the rise in greenhouse gases is nullified by natural processes that are beyond the control of man.

Here is a short excerpt from this great book by Steve Goreham:

“Welcome to the mad mad mad world of Climatism. It's a world of veggie meals and insect snacks, tiny cars, fluorescent bulbs, and carbon credits. It's a world where your children are measured by the size of their carbon footprint, rather than the content of their character. It's a world directed by global bureaucrats who are not accountable to any voter. It's a world of government subsidized and expensive wind, solar, and biofuel energy. The proponents of Climatism assert that all this, and more, is necessary if we are to save the planet.” page 45

Read the Whole Bible in 2014! Monday, February 24, 2014

I'm going to try to read through the whole Bible this year. Why don't you join me? There are many different websites that offer reading plans to read the Bible in a year. The one I chose is Read the KJV Bible in One Year. So for today, let's read 4 - 7 in the book of Romans.

Special verse(s):

Romans 4

"But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness." - Romans 4:5

Romans 5

"Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:" - Romans 5:1

"And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us." - Romans 5:3-5

"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." - Romans 5:8

"Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: " - Romans 5:12

Romans 6

"What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?" - Romans 6:1,2

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." - Romans 6:23

Romans 7

"For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man." - Romans 7:2,3

"For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do." - Romans 7:18,19

"But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin." - Romans 7:23-25

Pentagon Budget Cuts Army to Pre-World War 2 Levels

Headlines:  Pentagon Budget Cuts Army to Pre-World War 2 Levels - newser.com

Excerpt from this article:

"The US Army may soon shrink to a level not seen since before it geared up to fight Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan simultaneously. In a spending proposal to be unveiled today, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel outlines plans to cut the Army to around 450,000 soldiers, its lowest level since 1940, and eliminate an entire class of Air Force attack jets, officials tell the New York Times. Insiders describe the budget as the first to try to move the military off its post-9/11 war footing."
-----------------------------------------------------

Why does America need an army at all when we have the United Nations to protect us?

Former Secretary of State under President Richard Nixon, Henry Kissenger  (and has recently come out in
support of Chris Christie for President in 2016!),  has been quoted as saying:

"Today Americans would be outraged if U.N. Troops entered Los Angeles to restore order; tomorrow they will be grateful! This is especially true if they were told there was an outside threat from beyond, whether real or promulgated, that threatened our very existence. It is then that all peoples of the world will plead with world leaders to deliver them from this evil. The one thing every man fears is the unknown. When presented with this scenario, individual rights will be willingly relinquished for the guarantee of their well being granted to them by their world government." In an address to the Bilderberger organization meeting at Evian, France, on May 21, 1991. As transcribed from a tape recording made by one of the Swiss delegates.
