Read the Whole Bible in 2014! Sunday, February 23, 2014

I'm going to try to read through the whole Bible this year. Why don't you join me? There are many different websites that offer reading plans to read the Bible in a year. The one I chose is Read the KJV Bible in One Year. So for today, let's read chapters 1 - 3 in the book of Romans.

Special verse(s):

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith." - Romans 1:16,17

"Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools..." - Romans 1:22

"For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet."  - Romans 1:26,27 *

"For there is no respect of persons with God." - Romans 2:11

"For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly..."- Romans 2:28,29

"As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one..." - Romans 3:10

"There is no fear of God before their eyes." - Romans 3:18

"Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin." - Romans 3:19,20

"Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law." - Romans 3:28

"Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law." - Romans 3:31

*Just a note on Romans 1:26,27 (aka 'The Homosexual verses!').  I almost chose to leave these 2 verses out in this section of Read the Whole Bible in 2014. I'm not a minister (never been one, never will be one!). But I imagine that many ministers (like Joel Osteen) either don't preach on these verses or water them down so much as to take the edge off. But homosexuality is only one of many many sins condemned in Romans 1. For example, Romans 1:31 could be seen as a serious indictment of those who watch much of the movies sitcoms that are on television today:

"Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them." - Romans 1:32

Note: If you have a reading disability that makes it difficult or impossible to read along with me this year, please consider going to Biblegateway.com and listening to the Bible. This is a great site with many resources, one of which is an audio version of the Bible
