"I'm From the Government and I'm Here to Rewrite Your Sermon!"

I'm From the Government and I'm Here to Rewrite Your Sermon - wnd.com

Excerpt from this article:

"Imagine uttering the words 'pro-life' in your church and finding yourself targeted by an investigation from the feared and reviled Internal Revenue Service. An expert on the First Amendment conflict between pastors and the federal agency, which says it is investigating speech delivered from pulpits, confirms that’s possible. Daniel Blomberg, legal counsel for the Becket Fund, told WND a recent case brought by the Freedom From Religion Foundation against the IRS raises the prospect of investigations of pastoral speech. FFRF demanded that the IRS investigate sermons, focusing on certain politically charged 'code words.'”

Harvard Writer: Free Speech Threatens Liberalism and Should Be Destroyed!

Harvard Writer: Free Speech Threatens Liberalism and Should Be Destroyed! - dailycaller.com

Excerpt from this Article:

"If this Harvard University student got her way, free speech on campus would be abolished and professors with dissenting views fired, because radical leftism is the only permissible political philosophy and the First Amendment is a barrier preventing modern colleges from fulfilling their proper role as indoctrination camps.

Matt Drudge Eviscerates ‘Fascist’ Dianne Feinstein

Matt Drudge eviscerates ‘fascist’ Dianne Feinstein:

"New-media pioneer Matt Drudge called Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., a “fascist” after she suggested only “real reporters” deserved protection under a new media-shield law. 'Comments from Sen. Feinstein yesterday on who’s a reporter were disgusting,' Drudge tweeted, adding that a '17-year old ‘blogger’ is as important as Wolf Blitzer.' 'Fascist!' he declared."

For all the "17-year-old-would-be-journalists" out there, remember Dianne Feinstein when you turn 18 and earn your right to vote!

Senate Amendment Would Give DOJ Power to Determine Who Is a 'Journalist'

Senate Amendment Would Give DOJ Power to Determine Who Is a 'Journalist':

"An amendment is moving through the Senate Judiciary Committee that would essentially allow the government to determine who is a journalist for purposes of legal protection of sources."

'Fascists': Matt Drudge blasts Dianne Feinstein for trying to define who is and who isn't a 'real' reporter

If you really want to know who is a real reporter, just ask David Rockefeller, who praise the 'bonified' journalists of the Washington Post, Time Magazine, and the New York Times, in the following quote:

"We are grateful to the Washington Post, The New York Times, Time Magazine, and their great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost forty years. It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subjected to the lights of publicity during those years. But, the world is now more sophisticated and prepared to march toward a world government. The supra-national sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national auto-determination practiced in past centuries." - David Rockefeller (Source)

Federal Government Now Requiring Churches to Get Permits for Baptisms

Federal government now requiring churches to get permits for Baptisms - BizPac Review:

"As if it wasn’t involved in people’s private lives enough, the federal government wants to regulate baptisms, requiring a special-use permit for ceremonies in public waters. The policy was recently enforced by the National Park Service, which — spontaneity be damned — requires a 48-hour advance notice of baptisms, according to Todd Starnes at Fox News."

It Is Time For Churches to Give Up Their Tax Exempt Status!

WaPo Assails Non-Profit Status for Churches, Rips Americans for Giving:

"The assault on America’s churches has begun, with commentators like Dylan Matthews of the Washington Post and Matthew Yglesias of Slate calling on the government to tax churches. 'Whichever faith you think is the one true faith, it’s undeniable that the majority of this church-spending is going to support false doctrines,' Yglesias wrote on Thursday. He added, 'upgrading a church’s physical plant doesn’t enhance the soul-saving capacity of its clergy.'"

The first amendmemt to the constitution says:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exersize therof..." (Source)

On the surface it seams that the first amendment to the constitution would support the tax exempt status of churches, but I think the time has come for churches to willingly give up that right. The church is not a building. It is not a bus, or a plane, or anything that can be bought with money. It is people who love and serve our Lord Jesus Christ and look for 'that blessed hope' (Titus 2:11-14) of his return.

Gay "Tolerance" and A Colorado Bakery

The Recliner Commentaries: Gay "tolerance" and a Colorado bakery:

"A gay couple in Colorado is now suing a Christian bakery owner for refusing to bake a cake for them.  The gay couple is claiming discrimination. I'm not sure I agree with this Christian baker's convictions. Would he refuse to provide a cake for an adulterer, drug abuser or alcoholic? Would he refuse to provide a cake for a party if he knew alcohol was likely to be abused there?  If not, he needs to be consistent. On the other hand, since when does 'discrimination' trump the Constitution?"

Court Says Suit Testing Blogger's Rights Can Go On

Court says suit testing blogger's rights can go on:

"A federal appeals court says former Agriculture Department employee Shirley Sherrod can continue her defamation case against a conservative blogger. Larry O'Connor, a colleague of the late blogger Andrew Breitbart, asked a federal court of appeals to throw out the case, saying it violates his freedom of speech rights. The appeals court on Tuesday upheld a federal district court's rejection of that motion to dismiss. The case is one of the first high-profile federal lawsuits to test bloggers' freedom of speech rights..."

What Does the Bible Say About Gun Control?

According to Wikipedia, firearms, or guns, were not invented until the 12th century in China. So it is safe to say that the Bible - written much earlier than that! - doesn't say much about guns. It does say much about violence, however. Our Lord Jesus says:

"I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves. Be ye therefore wise as serpents and harmless as doves." - Matthew 10:16

Christians need to exercise some of this wisdom in the current gun control debate.  The issue is not whether private citizens should be allowed to own military assault weapons that could be used to kill dozens of innocent  people very quickly. Unless you are planning to secede from the union, I don't see any reason why a private citizen should own any weapons other than a handgun to protect their family from an intruder intent on doing them harm, or a rifle to be used to legally kill wildlife that they intend to eat.

The Devil doesn't care about the Second Amendment to the Constitution. He loves violence and violent people like Sandy Hook Killer Adam Lanza (See Satan Worship Motivated Sandy Hook Killer?). Perhaps, rather than go after our guns, we should pass laws outlawing Satan worship!

While the Devil doesn't care much about the Second Amendment to our Constitution, he cares very deeply about the First Amendment which says:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging of freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Christians don't need the government's permission to preach the gospel and tell people about our Lord Jesus.  We are going to do that with or without the government's blessing (see Acts 4:20 and Acts 5:29). But the Devil knows if he can get rid of the First Amendment, he can make it much harder for Christians to fulfill their mandate from their Lord, to "Preach the gospel to every creature." (Mark 16:15).

And getting rid of the Second Amendment will make it much easier to get rid of the First. If you think that is just being paranoid, take some time to listen to the following podcast by Pastor Sean Harris:

Pulpit Freedom Sunday 2012 - What's it all About? Part III

In part 2 of this 3 part series on Pulpit Freedom Sunday, I posted a link to a sermon by Dr. Dennis Ingolfsland. In that sermon, Pulpit Freedom Sunday, Dr. Ingolfsland shares his views on some of the issues that brought about Pulpit Freedom Sunday .

Now, I want to conclude with a link to a sermon by Pastor Joey Faust on this same topic. The title of his sermon is:   Not a Jezebel State Church.

Pulpit Freedom Sunday 2012 - What's it All About? Part I

This is part 1 in a 3 part series on Pulpit Freedom Sunday. Please read the article, Pastors Prepare to Defy IRS With “Pulpit Freedom Sunday”. This news article provides an opportunity to look again into the controversy surrounding the  501c3 Tax Exempt status for churches.

The writer of this article says,  "The purpose [of Pulpit Freedom Sunday] is to make sure that the pastor, and not the IRS, decides what is said from the pulpit." Actually, it is, or should be, the Bible that decide what  is to be said from the pulpit, but let's not split hairs!

There are 2 issues at stake in Pulpit Freedom Sunday. One is the pastors' first amendment right to freedom of speech, granted to them by the United States government. If (some say when!) that right is taken away, Pastors are going to have to decide whether they want to obey God (Acts 5:29) or the state.

The second issue, and really more to the point on this particular event, is whether or not a church can claim 501 c3 tax exempt status,  and still expect the government to allow them to say anything they want (or they feel the Bible compels them to say) from the pulpit.

To me, this is like the church wanting to have its cake (501 c3 tax exempt status) and eat it too (be protected from the IRS).

In an effort to try to look at both sides of the issue,  please take time to listen to these 2 great audio messages (I respect pastor Hammack, but on this issue, I agree more with Brother Slattery!).
