It Is Time For Churches to Give Up Their Tax Exempt Status!

WaPo Assails Non-Profit Status for Churches, Rips Americans for Giving:

"The assault on America’s churches has begun, with commentators like Dylan Matthews of the Washington Post and Matthew Yglesias of Slate calling on the government to tax churches. 'Whichever faith you think is the one true faith, it’s undeniable that the majority of this church-spending is going to support false doctrines,' Yglesias wrote on Thursday. He added, 'upgrading a church’s physical plant doesn’t enhance the soul-saving capacity of its clergy.'"

The first amendmemt to the constitution says:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exersize therof..." (Source)

On the surface it seams that the first amendment to the constitution would support the tax exempt status of churches, but I think the time has come for churches to willingly give up that right. The church is not a building. It is not a bus, or a plane, or anything that can be bought with money. It is people who love and serve our Lord Jesus Christ and look for 'that blessed hope' (Titus 2:11-14) of his return.
