Engaging the LGBT Community [Podcast]

Engaging the LGBT Community, by Landon Chapman

This is an excellent podcast and I highly recommend it. There are some Christians who want to criminalize members of the LGBT community (See: 4 Reasons the Magistrates Have a Duty to Criminalize Homosexual Acts, by Matthew Trewella). And there are Christians who single out these people as though they were the worst sinners imaginable (See: Russell Brand Hosts the Westboro Baptist Church).

But a lot of Christians feel like they are on the ropes, fighting for their very existence (See: The History of Religious Liberty and Religious Liberty Under Attack, both by Jim Schneider).

Still, it's important to keep in mind that our Lord Jesus didn't command his followers to defend their rights, but rather to:

"Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned." - Mark 16:15,16

If and when it becomes illegal for Christians to follow that command, they need to "obey God rather than men" (Acts 5:29) As Dr. David P. Murray says in When Government Tries to Be God:  "We will be respectful. We will give our reasons. But we will say, No!"

To paraphrase  Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892):

"If [members of the LGBT community] will be damned, at least let them leap to hell over our bodies. And if they will perish, let them perish with our arms around their knees, imploring them to stay. If hell must be filled, at least let it be filled in the teeth of our exertions, and let not one go there unwarned and unprayed for."

Liberals To Christians: Get In The Closet

Liberals To Christians: Get In The Closet - dailycaller.com

Excerpt from this article:

"...we’re not talking about letting the local McDonald’s manager decide same-sex couples are too 'happy' for Happy Meals.  The truth is that few businesses would want to turn away gay customers even if it was allowed — Indiana already lacks laws banning private sector discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, but there’s little evidence such discrimination is widespread — and any that chose to do so would pay a competitive price, if not be boycotted and picketed out of existence....
The Indiana religious freedom law dust-up reveals that liberals who believe in the sentiment wrongly attributed to Voltaire — “I do not agree with what you have to say, but I’ll defend to the death your right to say it' — have been supplanted by pat-a-cake progressives who demand 'Bake me a cake as fast you can.'”

Presbyterian Church Fights For Its $6M Property In Its Legal Battle With PCUSA After Split Over Homosexuality

Presbyterian Church Fights For Its $6M Property In Its Legal Battle With PCUSA After Split Over Homosexuality - christianpost.com

Excerpt from this article:

"PCUSA argues that they rightfully own the Bonhomme property due to a provision in the denomination's Book of Order known as the 'Trust Clause.' According to the PCUSA Book of Order G-4.0203, the trust clause states that 'All property held by or for a particular church … is held in trust nevertheless for the use and benefit of the Presbyterian Church (USA).'"
-----------------------

First, kudos to the Bonhomme Presbyterian Church for leaving the PCUSA. But what took you so long? And second, my advice to your congregation is to let the PCUSA have the $6M "Church" (notice that I put "Church" in quotations).  The church is not a building, it is the Bride of Christ. It is made up of men and women and boys and girls from Adam and Eve to the last person saved.

The Bible says:

"Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded?"  1 Corinthians 6:7

World Vision to Hire Same-Sex Couples - As Long As They're Married!

World Vision: Why We're Hiring Gay Christians In Same-Sex Marriage - charistianitytoday.com

Excerpt from this article:

"World Vision's American branch will no longer require its more than 1,100 employees to restrict their sexual activity to marriage between one man and one woman.  Abstinence outside of marriage remains a rule. But a policy change announced Monday [March 24] will now permit gay Christians in legal same-sex marriages to be employed at one of America's largest Christian charities.
 ---------------------------------------------

The Bible says:

"For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet." - Romans 1:26,27

Unlike Christiantytoday.com and worldvision.org, mygospelproject2.blogspot.com does not have a "Donate Button."  And unlike these two "Christian" organizations, mygospelproject2.blogspot.com does not accept any advertisements. And so until it becomes illegal in America to speak out against sin (including homosexuality), I will continue to do so.

The Bible says

"When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand." - Ezekiel 33:8

The Death of Westboro Baptist Church's Fred Phelps, and "Stone Me, I'm a Lesbian!"

Jenifer Louise Lopez Asks Anti-Gay Harlem Church to Stone Her - huffingtonpost.com

Excerpt from this article:

"When Jennifer Louise Lopez first saw the horrific anti-gay sign go up on The ATLAH Worldwide Missionary Church in her neighborhood in Harlem, she knew she had to take action....the church made headlines in late February when religious leaders posted a polarizing sign that read "Obama has released the homo demons on the black man. Look out black woman. A white homo may take your man."  The church then later replaced the sign with one that read "Jesus would stone homos,' ... .In response, Lopez knocked on the church's front door this week and informed the man who answered that she was there for her stoning. 'I saw your sign and I'm here for my stoning, I'm a lesbian...'""
---------------------------------------------------------

There is a (very irreverent!) joke, based on John 8, where Jesus is brought a woman caught in the act of adultery. The religious rulers tell Jesus the law says she should be stoned. Jesus answers and says "He that is without sin cast the first stone."

Everyone in the crowd looks down at their feet in silence, and then a woman comes through the crowd with a giant rock over her head and crushes the lady's head in, killing her on the spot. Then Jesus says,  "You know mom, sometimes you really piss me off!"

Homosexuality, like a great many other sins in the Bible, is wrong and Christians need to speak out against it. But not after the fashion of the Westboro Baptist cult. The same apostle Paul who wrote Romans 1:26 &27 also said:

"(For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)"

I believe that if Pastor Charles Haddon Spurgeon were alive today, he would preach a sermon titled: Ye Men of the Westboro Baptist Church: Turn or Burn!

Joel Osteen Tells Larry King "Scripture Says Homosexuality is a Sin, But I Don't Want to Preach About It" - Huffingtonpost.com

Excerpt from this article:

"King asked Osteen, 'What are your views on homosexuality?' to which Osteen replied 'The same that they’ve been. I believe that scripture says that it’s a sin but I always follow that up by saying you know what, we’re not against anybody.' ... King enquired, 'Does gay marriage annoy you?" Osteen said, “It doesn’t annoy me. From a scripture point of view, it’s not what my faith would teach, but it doesn’t annoy me.'"

CDC Sees Big Spike in Unprotected Sex for Gay Men

CDC Sees Big Spike in Unprotected Sex for Gay Men - newser.com

Excerpt from this article:

"Lots of gay men in America are taking a dangerous leap of faith, says the CDC. The agency reports a big increase in the number of men having unprotected anal sex—from 48% of gay and bisexual males in 2005 to 57% last year, reports HealthDay News. What's more, about a third of the men surveyed hadn't been tested for HIV within the past year."
------------------------------

It's not hate speech to warn a driver that the bridge is out and that if they don't turn around they are going to drive off the cliff and plunge into the river below. True hate speech would be for a person to know that the bridge is out, see a car coming, and smile and wave at them as they go speeding toward the cliff! That is exactly what liberal Christian ministers do when they refuse to preach on sin, judgment and hell!

According to AIDS Healthcare Foundation, Aids was first noticed in the early 1980s in New York, California, and Uganda among young gay men. But by the mid-1980s it was being reported from locations from around the world.

By 1983 the late Rev. Jerry Falwell (of Moral Majority fame) came out publicly debating that Aids was "God's Punishment for Homosexuality." And pastor Falwell was not alone. Conservative (aka Bible believing) pastors and lay people from around the world were drawing the same conclusions. The quoted from Romans 1:26-27, which says:

"For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet." (emphasis mine).

The horrors of the Aids epidemic of the 1980s and 1990s seam to be forgotten as same-sex marriage becomes the law of the land. And it may be that the article I cited above from the CDC is just a hint of what is to come in the near future. Remember what the Bible says:

"Be not deceived. God is not mocked. For whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." (Galatians 6:7)

Christians should never be involved in hate speech (like the hateful people at Westboro Baptist Cult with their ridiculous godhatesfags.com website! See: Russell Brand Hosts the Westboro Baptist Church, by Pastor David McManus). But God is going to hold us accountable for telling people that the bridge is out! (See Ezekiel 33:6, 8 & 11).

Washington Cathedral: "Church of Anything Goes"

Washington Cathedral: "Church of Anything Goes" - wnd.com

Excerpt from this article:

“At the Washington National Cathedral, the Very Rev. Gary Hall announced last Sunday that he had discovered a sin unknown to hundreds of churchmen before him. ‘We must now have the courage to … call homophobia and heterosexism what they are,’ he said. ‘They are sins. Homophobia is a sin. Heterosexism is a sin. Shaming people for whom they love is a sin.’"

Here are 2 podcasts that touch on this very touchy subject (no pun intended!). I call these 2 speakers The Man of Steel (pastor Kevin Swanson) and The Woman of Velvet (college student Pricilla Del Aguila). Both are opposed to homosexuality because they believe - rightly so - that the Bible (and the Bible's Author, God) is opposed to it.

But they take a slightly different perspective on the topic (Hence why I call them The Man of Steel and the Woman of Velvet!)

Pastor Kevin Swanson: Why Persecution is Coming to the Church in America
Pricilla Del Aguila: No Tips for Gays
“At the Washington National Cathedral, the Very Rev. Gary Hall announced last Sunday that he had discovered a sin unknown to hundreds of churchmen before him. ‘We must now have the courage to … call homophobia and heterosexism what they are,’ he said. ‘They are sins. Homophobia is a sin. Heterosexism is a sin. Shaming people for whom they love is a sin.’
“Mr. Hall, dean of Washington’s most prominent Episcopal church, criticized the role that some churches have played in oppressing young lesbians, gays, bisexual and transgendered youth. ‘It is not only just OK to be gay, straight, bisexual or transgendered,’ he said. ‘It is good to be that way, because that is the way God has made you.’”
That absolutely astounding theological and biological conjecture surely raises the question: Why has Dean Hall limited God’s (alleged) alternative sexual creationism to homosexual, bisexual and transsexual?
Why has the Very Rev. Hall neglected to proclaim God’s allegedly and determined creating of advocates of polygamy, polyandry, pedophilia, necrophilia and bestiality?

New LGBT Protection Law Criminalizing Believers?

New LGBT Protection Law Criminalizing Believers? - US - CBN News - Christian News 24-7 - CBN.com:

"More than 180 cities across the country have now passed LGBT laws that suppress the views of Christians. Dubbed "nondiscrimination" by LGBT activists, the ordinances provide new protection for sexual minorities while also severely curtailing religious liberty. So far, the laws have gone largely unnoticed. But a measure passed in San Antonio Sept. 5 has drawn national attention, both for its scope and for passing in this large, Hispanic-majority city traditionally known for its family values. The ordinance forbids discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity."

The Conscience of a Conservative Christian Blogger

Yesterday I watched the You Tube Video They Sold Their Souls for Rock and Roll (part 1).  I've seen it before, or at least an earlier version of it. But what really stood out this time was a comment about rap artist Eminem. It was said that Eminem "Wrestles with the ramifications he knows his songs have on his listeners."

Yes, I'm sure Eminem's songs do have "ramifications" on his listeners. Most of the stuff I've heard from him could have been written by Satan himself. And he will be held accountable on the Day of Judgment for those "ramifications."

But as a "Conservative Christian Blogger," I also wrestle with the "ramifications" that my posts may have on my readers. I am not a minister (never been one, never will be one). And so I take a little comfort in the fact that I won't be held to the same standard as those who call themselves ministers (whether they have been called by God to that office or not!). The Bible says:

"My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation."  (James 3:1).

But like Eminem, and all the rest of humanity, the words of my Lord Jesus applied to me as well:

"But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak they shall give account thereof on the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned." (Matthew 12:36,37).

I know a day is coming when I will give account of  "every idle word" I post on my blog. And like Eminem, I will have to give an account for the "ramifications" those "idle words" have on  my readers. I like to imagine 3 specific groups of people who may visit this site:

1. The first group is made up of true Christians. Those who love our Lord Jesus with all their heart, who look to him in true faith and trust in his shed blood on the cross as their only hope of salvation.  I like to think that, at least from time to time, people in this group will read something I post (or listen to a sermon or podcast I link to) and say "Amen brother! Well Said."

2. The second group is made up of both non-Christians and Christians alike, but are poles apart from my way of thinking. And when they read my posts, they roll their eyes and reach for their mouse to quickly move on to another web site.

3. The third group is made up of readers who may be emotionally unstable, or very very very angry - for whatever reason. And instead of finding the gospel of my Lord Jesus (by clicking on links like When Government tries to be God and Compel Them to Come In), these people get stirred up by my posts against abortion (Would it Bother Us More If They Used Guns?), against same sex marriage (Why Persecution is coming to the Church in America), against Catholicism (Saving Those Damned Catholics!), against Protestant religious leaders ( Billy Graham, Pope Francis, and the Doctrine of Total Depravity, What Do Dr. Tim LaHaye and Glen Beck Have in Common?), or our president (Is Obama the Anti-Christ? I Say Yes!), or whatever.

This third group concerns me greatly. I am not Amish. I am not a Quaker. But I am totally committed to non-violence. And I would hate to think of one of my readers going out and committing a "Hate Crime" or an act of violence against anyone because of something he (or she) read or heard on this site. My Lord Jesus said - and I have this quote posted on the upper right hand corner of my blog:

"Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves. Be ye therefore wise as serpents and harmless as doves." (Matthew 10:16)

Why Welcome a Same-Sex Couple to Church?

Why Welcome a Same-Sex Couple to Church? | Christianity Today:

"Imagine this no-longer-hypothetical situation: Matt and Alex Jones-Smith, newlyweds, arrive on a Monday morning in summertime to register their adopted daughter, Rachel, for Vacation Bible School at Maranatha Bible Church on Main Street. What should be the response of the Sunday school superintendent?
1. Provide directions to the nearest liberal congregation.
2. Register Rachel for Vacation Bible School and then hand the couple Marantha Bible's statement of faith, including the part on human sexuality where homosexual behavior is condemned.
3. Proceed with registration, and then ask the Jones-Smiths, legally married in the eyes of the state, to meet with the pastor to talk about baptism and membership.
4. None of the above."

The answer is number 4: "None of the above." Number 2 might have been a good answer - "Register Rachel for Vacation Bible School" - if it were not for the added part about handing the gay couple the churches "Statement of faith, including the part on human sexuality where homosexual behavior is condemned." Answers number 1 and 3 are out, because if you choose them then you may as well go join a liberal church yourself!

But this "no-longer-hypothetical-situation" does not have to involve just a gay couple. How many sexually-active-yet-unmarried heterosexual couples bring their kids to Sunday School or Vacation Bible School? Do you want to hand them your church's "Statement of Faith," including the part on "human sexuality where sex outside of marriage is condemned?" (see Matthew 5:27, 28, as well as the following sermon on these verses: Dealing With Lust, by Pastor Robert McCurley).

Our Lord Jesus said, "Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, whosoever shall not receive the Kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein." - Mark 10:14,15
