Curses: There Nothing to Joke About!

A old man goes to a wizard to ask him if he can remove a curse he has been living with for the last 40 years.
The Wizard say, "Maybe, but you will have to tell me the exact words that were used."
The old man says without hesitation: "I now pronounce you man and wife."

People joke about curses, and many believe they are real. At least if the curse falls from the lips of a Witch or a Witch Doctor or some other servant of the Devil. I remember years ago I had a friend who was deep into the occult. He was reading everything he could find on Wicca, Witchcraft, Astrology, Numerology, and so forth.

One night he was showing me a book called The Necronomicon. He told me this was a very evil book - and I persuaded him to burn it! I don't know why - he didn't burn his other books - but he agreed to burn this one right at that moment. As the book went up in flames, my friend bent over and stared into the fire, looking intently to see if there were any magical signs that he could see. There weren't.

I don't deny the power of Witches, or practitioners of Voodoo, and so on, to pronounce curses. The Bible says that we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." (Ephesians 6:11,12).

But at best curses that derive their power from Satan will have an effect only in this lifetime. We know (and so does the Devil!) that his time is short (Revelation 12:10-12) and that a day is coming when Satan and all his followers will "be tormented day and night forever and ever" (Revelation 20:10).

Rather than worry about curses that derive their power from the Devil, we all need to consider the very real, very powerful curses that come from God, and that will be in effect throughout all eternity.

The Bible says: "For as many as are under the works of the law are under the curse. As it is written, cursed is everyone that continueth not in all things that are written in the law." (Galatians 3:10)
