British Doctors Now Asking Elderly If They Are Ready To Die

British Doctors Now Asking Elderly If They Are Ready To Die - thedailysheeple.com

Excerpt from this article:

"Ever since the Affordable Care Act was passed, Americans have been asking themselves if our healthcare will ever resemble the UK’s socialized medical system. Some have greeted it with praise, while others have been concerned that our healthcare could turn to death panels to cut costs. Now the UK’s National Health Service has given us another unfortunate condition to look forward to. They recently told all doctors to ask every patient over 75 if they would like to establish a “do not resuscitate” order for future emergencies. In some cases, the doctors are ordering their nurses to cold-call every elderly patient, and everyone with a long-term condition, to see if they have “thought about resuscitation.”

I've worked in a hospital in the past. I believe Healthcare Directives and Do Not Resuscitate orders are appropriate topics for doctors and nurses to discuss with their patients, especially as they get older. I don't believe in abortion or euthanasia, but that doesn't mean I think people that are terminally ill should be artificially kept alive against their wishes.

It's a gray area that every Christian must seriously think about. When a doctor gives a terminally ill patient a large shot of morphine - knowing that the drug will cause the patient to stop breathing and die - it is murder. And the doctor should be punished accordingly.

But if that same doctor gives that same patient a large shot of morphine to keep them 'comfortable' (free from pain), and the patient dies as a result of that shot, that is not murder. It is the legitimate work of a highly trained (and compassionate) physician to one of his or her patients.

But the decision to sign a 'Do Not Resuscitate' should not be taken lightly. Maybe instead of asking a patient "Are you ready to die?" doctors should ask their patients "Are you ready to die and meet God?" The Bible says:

"As it is appointed unto men once to die, and after that, the judgement." - Hebrews 9:27

If you are not sure if you are ready to die and meet God, why don't you read my post: The Roman Road To Salvation
