Pilgrim's Progress - A Major Film Release - Second Most Important Book in History

Pilgrim's Progress - A Major Film Release - Second Most Important Book in History, by Pastor Kevin Swanson
---------------------------------------------

I agree with Pastor's Swanson: Pilgrim's Progress is the second most important book in history (The first being the Holy Bible!). I've read that Pastor Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892) had read Pilgrim's Progress over 100 times in his lifetime. And the late R.C. Sproul (1939-2017) once said that he would gladly have all his book burned up if only we would bring back the Puritan writers - and John Bunyan (1628-1688), the author of Pilgrim's Progress, would no doubt have been high on Dr. Sproul's list of Puritan authors he'd like to see people read today. According to Wikipedia, Pilgrim's Progress has been translated into more than 200 languages, and has never been out of print!

Here is a short quote from this great book:

"'But, brother,' said Mr. Great-Heart, 'I have it in my commision to 'comfort the feeble-minded,' and 'to support the weak.'  You must needs go along with us: we will wait for you; we will lend you our help; we will deny ourselves some of the things, both opinionate and practical, for your sake; we will not enter into 'doubtful disputations' before you; we will be 'made all things' to you, rather than you shall be left behind."  - John Bunyan (1628-1688).

Once the most deeply cherished book in English-speaking households other than Bible itself, John Bunyan's The Pilgrim's Progress is the allegorical tale of Christian the pilgrim on his journey to the Celestial City. Along the way, Christian encounters both worthy companions and dreadful adversaries. Although this book was written more than three hundred years ago, this stirring spiritual narrative still bears the power to challenge and encourage readers on their own spiritual journeys.

952048: John Bunyan and the Grace of Fearing God John Bunyan and the Grace of Fearing God
By Joel R. Beeke & Paul M. Smalley / P & R Publishing

He was the author of one of the best-selling Christian books of all time and his Bible-saturated works have inspired generations of believers all over the world. And yet, as influential as it is, John Bunyan's theology contains a unifying thread that is sorely neglected in the modern church: the vital importance of the fear of God.
Few things are more feared in contemporary Christianity than the fear of God, as many believe it to be at odds with belief in a God of love. Joel Beeke and Paul Smalley's John Bunyan and the Grace of Fearing God guides readers through Bunyan's life, delving to the core of his writings to illuminate the true grace of fearing God. Beeke and Smalley demonstrate through this biographical exploration how the only freedom from a guilty fear of God's wrath is in a joyful, childlike fear of his holiness.
