Winning the World, One Soul at a Time

Winning the World, One Soul at a Time, by Rev. Ralph Hall

The text for this sermon is Acts 8:26-39 (Audio)

Here is a short excerpt from this sermon:

"One old minister who heard [William Carey] talk about these subjects (bringing the gospel to the heathen in foreign lands) accused him of being a miserable enthusiast. And when he was at a meeting of ministers one day and spoke about the need to go to foreign countries to share the gospel with those who have never heard of the Lord Jesus Christ, he was told, 'Young man, sit down. When God pleases to convert the heathen, he will do it without your aid or mine.' So there wasn't much encouragement for him. But William Carey went to India and he labored there for the Lord for 40 years and he supervised and edited translations of the Bible into at least 36 languages and dialects. He published grammars and dictionaries. He labored to abolish widow burning and infanticide. He studied botany in order to promote agricultural improvement. In a sermon that he preached just before leaving England to travel to India he uttered those now famous words, 'Expect great things from God. Attempt great things for God.'"
