And Just For Fun...

The Devil Went Down to Jordan, by Apoligetix (A Parody on The Devil Went Down to Georgia, by The Charlie Daniels Band)

For a more serious sermon on the work of the devil, listen to the following:

Colossians 2:1-15, by Rev. Paul den Butter

This sermon is based on Colossians 2:1-15:

"For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh; That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words. For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ. As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:  Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;  Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it."

One, Two, Three O'clock, Four O'clock Talk!

The Apostle Paul says:

"For in him we live and move and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring." - Acts 17:28

Paul was not afraid to quote from worldly poets if it helped to teach the truth of Scripture. And so, why don't you take some time to listen to the Christian group, Apoligetix, who I think have taken Paul's lead out into the 21st century. Here are a few of their songs (you may recognize the tune!):

Hotel, Can't Afford Ya  (Parody of Hotel California)
Bethlehemian Rhapsody  (Parody of Bohemioan Rhapsody)
Pharoh-noid (Parody of Paranoid)
Back in the New Testament (Parody of Back in the U.S.S.R.)
Narrow Way to Heaven) (Parody of Stairway to Heaven
Bends to Low Places (Parody of Friends in Low Places)
Sounds of Silas (Parody of Sounds of Silence)
Bad Dude Risin' (Parody of Bad Moon Rising)
Hey, Zaccheus (Parody of Take it Easy)
We're More Than Champions (Parody of We Are the Champions)
Help Me Rhoda (Parody of Help Me Ronda)
Revelation Man (Parody of Secret Agent Man)
And finally, Old Time Romans Road (parody of Old Time Rock and Roll), which fits right in with my post: The Romans Road to Salvation

Here are more songs by Apoligetix

But the one song that caught my attention - using the music to the song Rock Around the Clock, is Talk About the Lord!

This was the first song I heard from Apoligetix, and I have to admit, though I liked the song, the first thing that came to my mind was negative. Instead of thinking of the blessing and the command to talk about the Lord, my mind went to Mr. Talkative in John Bunyan's great book, Pilgrim's Progress.

But we are commanded by our Lord Jesus to talk to people about him:

"But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear..." - 1st Peter 3:15
