But What Would Jesus Do About Immigration?

But What Would Jesus Do About Immigration? [Cartoon] - canadafreepress.com

Excerpt from this cartoon:

"Remember, even heaven has a wall, a gate, and extreme vetting to get in" - Jesus
----------------------------------

Our Lord Jesus never said that! What he did say is this:

"Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also.  And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain. Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away. Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven:" - Matthew 5:38-45

And when our Lord Jesus stood before Pilate, the Roman governor, he said:

"My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence." - John 18:36

However, if President Trump were to look to the Bible for guidance on the immigration/refugee crisis, he might consider the first chapter of Exodus:

"Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph. And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we: Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us..." - Exodus 1:8-10

If you go back and read the last few chapters in Genesis, you will see that the Pharoah of Egypt invited the small community of Israelites (70 in all) to come and live in Egypt.

I know I'm taking this verse completely out of context, but President Trump has to consider whether these verses might in any way relate to our current immigration crisis
