A Tribute to John Newton, Author of Amazing Grace

I Asked the Lord That I Might Grow (Video), by John Newton (1725-1807)
-----------------------

You may recognize John Newton as the author of that wonderful hymn Amazing Grace. It has been claimed that You Tube has recordings of Amazing Grace in over 50 Languages (source). Here are just a few: Spanish, German, Cherokee, French, Korean, Swedish, Russian, Japanese, Arabic, Lumbee, Chinese and Tagalog.

Dr. J. I. Packer had to say about Amazing Grace:

"Yet we in our day, much as we love to sing Amazing Grace (I suppose because we like the tune), are not inwardly amazed by grace as the Puritans were; it does not startle us that the holy Creator should receive sinners into his company; rather, we take it for granted! 'God will forgive. That's his job!' was the final scoff with which the French cynic went to meet his Maker."

A lesser know hymn written by John Newton is Day of Judgment, Day of Wonders. To learn more about John Newton, check out these 2 sermons by Rev. Lee Sterritt:
