Fire That Never Goes Out

Fire That Never Goes Out, by Rev. John Greer

The Text for this sermon is Leviticus 1:1-9 (Audio) and Leviticus 6:8-13 (Audio)
-----------------------------

In 1555, under the reign of "Bloody Mary" Tudor of England, Hugh Latimer and Nicholas Ridley were burned at the stake for their faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. Hugh Latimer is quoted as having said to Nicholas Ridley "Play the man, Master Ridley; we shall this day light such a candle, by God's grace, in England, as I trust shall never be put out." (Source)

And the night before being burned at the stake, Dr. Ridley is reported to have said to a lady who was weeping for him, "Though my breakfast will be somewhat sharp, my supper will be more pleasant and sweet." (Source)

While Hugh Latimer and Nicholas Ridley have been enjoying that pleasant and sweet fellowship with our Lord Jesus for 500 years now, "Bloody Mary" is still experiencing the sharp "fire that never goes out!"
