Daily Sermon for the Hearing Impaired: Dead in Trespasses and Sins

Dead in Trespasses and Sins,  by Joe W. Allen [Text: Ephesians (Audio)]

Note: This daily sermon for the hearing impaired is dedicated to my good friend, David J. Bishop, who went home to be with his Lord Jesus on July 1, 2021. David was the inspiration for me to begin posting links to sermons for the hearing impaired. David's not deaf anymore. And the first words he heard were from our Lord Jesus, saying to him, "Well done, David, thou good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of thy Lord!" [Matthew 25:21 (Audio)]

Here is one of the last pictures David sent to me before he died. He was a big sports fan and LOVED the Seattle Seahawks! But David loved our Lord Jesus much, much more!

"Whosoever calleth upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." - Romans 10:13

"My friend I stand in Judgment now
And feel that you're to blame somehow.
While on this earth I walked with you day by day
And never did you point the way.

"You knew the Lord in truth and glory,
But never did you tell the story.
My knowledge then was very dim,
You could have led me safe to him.

"Though we lived together here on earth
You never told me of the second birth.
And now I stand this day condemned,
Because you failed to mention him.

"You taught me many things, that's true,
I called you friend and trusted you.
But now I learned, now it's too late,
You could have kept me from this fate.

"We walked by day and talked by night,
And yet you showed me not the light.
You let me live, love and die,
And all the while you knew I'd never live on high.

"Yes, I called you friend in life,
And trusted you in joy and strife.
Yet in coming to this end,
I see you really weren't my friend!"
-My Friend, by D.J. Higgins

Westminster Shorter Catechism (WSC) Q & A #98-100 (1646,1647)

 # 98 Question: What is prayer?

Answer: Prayer is an offering up of our desires unto God, for things agreeable to his will, in the name of Christ, with confession of our sins, and thankful acknowledgment of his mercies.

#99 Question: What rule hath God given for our direction in prayer?
Answer:  The whole word of God is of use to direct us in prayer; but the special rule of direction is that form of prayer which Christ taught his disciples, commonly called the Lord's prayer.

#100 Question: What doth the preface of the Lord's prayer teach us?

Answer: The preface of the Lord's prayer, which is, Our Father which art in heaven, teacheth us to draw near to God with all holy reverence and confidence, as children to a father able and ready to help us; and that we should pray with and for others.

Compel Them to Come In, by Pastor Charles Spurgeon (1834-1892)

This sermon was preached in 1858, but it is just as relevant for today as if it were preached this morning! The text for Pastor Spurgeon's sermon is Luke 14:23 (Audio):

"And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled."

Spurgeon once said, 'Wherever the gospel is preached, the most wicked of men and women are made to sit at the Savior's feet, clothed and in their right minds."

The text for this last sermon is Jeremiah 9:9 (Audio): "Shall I not visit them for these things? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation is this?"

There are good reasons for any country to support 'controlled, legal immigration.' But if tragedies like this don't bring tears to your eyes, you're not human!

The following is a quote for the late Dr. Lewis B. Smedes (1921-2002): Mere Morality - What God Expects of Ordinary People

"A baby born, through no choice of her own, into a poverty stricken family has a right to nourishing food, a warm bed, and loving care. But as she grows, she also has a need to flourish as a human being. She needs education and books, music, access to dentists and doctors, and a chance to develop her gifts for creative work." -  Dr. Lewis B. Excerpt from this article:

"..all the marks that existed in the world in the summer of 1922 were not worth enough, by November of 1923, to buy a single newspaper or a tram ticket."

----------------------------

Michael Burry saw the financial meltdown of 2008 coming. The book The Big Short tells the story. The following quotes are from The Big Short, which told the story of the financial meltdown in 2008 and who profited from it:

“Being short in 2007 and making money from it was fun, because we were short bad guys. In 2008 it was the entire financial system that was at risk. We were still short, but you don’t want the system to crash. It's sort of like the flood’s about to happen, and you’re Noah. You’re on the ark, ya, you’re okay, but you’re not happy looking out at the flood. That’s not a happy moment for Noah.”

Second quote:

“In early October 2008 after the U.S. government had stepped in to say it would...absorb all the losses in the financial system and prevent any big Wall Street firm from failing.”

Third quote:

“Maybe the best definition of investing is gambling with the odds in your favor. The people on the short side of the subprime mortgage market had gambled with the odds in their favor. The people on the other side – the entire financial system, essentially – had gambled with the odds against them. What’s strange and complicated about it is that pretty much all the important people on both sides left the table rich.”

And the last quote:

“The world’s most highly paid financiers had been totally discredited; without government intervention, every single one of them would have lost his job. And yet those same financiers were using the government to enrich themselves. I can understand why Goldman Sachs would want to be included in the conversation about what to do about Wall Street. What I can’t understand is why anyone would listen to them”

The Bible says:

"And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six." - Revelation 13:16-18

And

"And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name." - Revelation 14:9-11
