Texas Bans Chaplains From Execution Chambers

Texas Bans Chaplains From Execution Chambers - christianpost.com

Excerpt from this article:

"Texas implemented a ban on chaplains being present in execution chambers for condemned inmates in response to two high-profile court cases on the issue. Recently, the U.S. Supreme Court granted a stay of execution for a Buddhist inmate who was prohibited from having a chaplain of his choosing in the chamber. A spokesperson for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice told the Texas Tribune that the ban was to take effect immediately."

According to the Death Penalty Information Center, "Death-row prisoners in the U.S. typically spend more than a decade awaiting execution. Some prisoners have been on death row for well over 20 years."

Country legend Johnny Cash (1932-2003), who I'm sure I'll see in heaven one day, gave a live performance at Folsom Prison in 1968. One of the songs he sang to the inmates there was titled  25 Minutes to Go. This humorous song tells about a condemned inmate "25 minutes" before being put to death. Here is a brief excerpt from this song:

"Now here comes the preacher for to save my soul, with 13 minutes to go,
He's talkin 'bout burnin but I'm so cold, 12 more minutes to go."

You don't want to wait until 25 minutes before you die before you call - not the chaplain, he can't save you - but on our Lord Jesus Christ!
