July: 988,000 'Discouraged' Americans Concluded There Were No Jobs for Them

July: 988,000 'Discouraged' Americans Concluded There Were No Jobs for Them | CNS News:

"There were 988,000 discouraged workers in the United States in July, an increase of 136,000 from July 2012, according to data released today the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). 'Discouraged workers are persons not currently looking for work because they believe no jobs are available for them,' the BLS explains."

The Bible says: "If a man will not work, he should not eat." (2 Thessalonians 3:10).  It doesn't say, "If a man cannot work he should not eat." But there is a large gray area between "will not work" and "can not work," and that is where many Americans find themselves in today's economy.

If ever there was a place for churches to step up to the plate and practice what they preach it is here. Don't just give a person a fish and feed them for a day. If they come knocking on your door asking for food, hand them a shovel and see if they are willing to do some manual labor. If they are not, then save your charity for those truly in need!

(Note on The Go Getter: A Story that Tells You How to Be One. I rarely recommend Positive Mental Attitude books on this site, mostly because many/most are unscriptural. I do like Dale Carnegies's book, How to Win Friends and Influence People, and for the job hunter - whether they are 18 and just entering the work force or 65 and trying to find someone to hire them, I like to recommend The Go Getter. This is a great little book! in Fact, both of these books should be required reading for anyone searching for a job.)
