Death, and how to Prepare for It - Puritan Andrew Gray (1634-1656)

The Bible says:

"And as it is appointed unto man once to die, and after that the judgment." - Hebrews 9:27

One of my hobbies is I like to read the obituaries in the local paper. I don't spend a lot of time with this "hobby", and mainly, I'm interested in one thing: is there any reference to God or our Lord Jesus Christ in there obituary. Many times there is not. They talk about college degrees the person had earned, successful businesses they started and run, military service and even political offices they've held. But not one word about Jesus. And I just think to myself, what a wasted life!

Here are 2 sermons you might want to listen to before your obituary appears in the paper:

1.

How to Benefit from a Funeral, by Dr. David P. Murray

The Text for this sermon is Ecclesiastes 7:2,3 (Audio):

"It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart. Sorrow is better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better."

 2.

Lies Told at Funerals, by Rev. Roger Higginson

The text for this sermon is 2 Timothy 4:24 (Audio) and Ezekiel 33:7 & 8 (Audio):

Here is the words of Ezekiel 33:7 & 8:

"So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me. When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand."
