America Wastes About Half the Food That it Produces While Hunger Runs Rampant Around the Globe

America Wastes About Half the Food That it Produces While Hunger Runs Rampant Around the Globe - theeconomiccollapseblog.com

Excerpt from this article:

"According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, close to a third of all food in the United States gets wasted after it gets to the store.  This is commonly referred to as 'downstream' waste.  When you add all of this 'downstream' waste up, it comes to a grand total of 133 billion pounds of food each year…"

I've spent a good part of my life working in and around the food industry. I've seen countless thousands of pounds of product thrown away - not nessasarily because it was bad or contaminated - but because it was not good enough to be fed to Americans.

American farmers and food processors have to meet very strict standards in order to sell to the public. And that's a good thing. But still, every time I see some food thrown away I ask myself , "If I was hungry, would I eat that?" Usually the answer is "YES!"

U.S. drought expands for 3rd straight week-US drought monitor | Reuters:

One of Every Five American Households on Food Stamps

One of Every Five American Households on Food Stamps:

"A record one out of every five American households, over 23 million in all, is now on food stamps. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) revealed that the number of households in January, 2013 was 23,087,886 households, 889,154 more than the year before. There are 115,310,000 households in the United States."

I don't begrudge people receiving food stamps. I've been on food stamps in the past. If a person wants to work - and can't (for whatever reason), they should be able to look to their neighbors, their church, or even their government for help.

Of course, if a person does not want to work, that is another story. The Bible says: "If a man will not work, neither should he eat." - 2 Thessalonians 3:10.

But the real tragedy is not the people who are starving for food, it is the people that are starving for truth. Our Lord Jesus says: "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." - Matthew 4:4.

In US, Child Poverty and Hunger Rates Alarmingly High

In US, Child Poverty and Hunger Rates Alarmingly High - Black Christian News Network (BCNN)

Excerpt:

"The U.S. Census Bureau determined that 25.1 percent of African-American households and 29.2 percent of households with children are food insecure. 'While there are indicators that the economy is recovering, children and ethnic minorities that were disproportionately impacted during the recession continue to struggle and lag behind in the recovery,'  explained Leonetta Elaiho, director of Youth and Community Engagement, U.S. Programs at World Vision, in an email statement to The Christian Post."

WIll Hunger Devastate the Earth in the 21st Century?

Hunger to devastate Earth in 21st century? - English pravda.ru:

"Who would have thought that in the 21st century the problem of hunger will be paramount on our planet? However, this is our reality. According to the UN, 1.2 billion people in the world are experiencing food shortages, and the scale of the tragedy is getting larger. The UN is trying to combat it by taking various measures, but so far with little success. Could someone be benefiting from global hunger?"

Drought Forcasted for America & Rest of the World

There is a drought forcasted for the United States, according to an article in The Los Angeles Times (see Drought Forecast to Persist in Much of U.S., Especially in the West).  The Bible also predicts a drought (and a famine!):

"Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord: And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it." - Amos 8:11,12.

Now, more than ever before, followers of our Lord Jesus should become 'spiritual preppers,' laying up God's word both in our minds, but especially in our hearts. King David said, under inspiration of the Holy Spirit:

"Thy Word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against Thee." - Psalms 119:11
