Charles Spurgeon on Calvinism

Here is a quote I came across several years ago by 19th century pastor, Charles Haddon Spurgeon:

"'What?' you say. 'Can God make me become a Christian?' I tell you, yes, for herein lies the power of the gospel. It does not ask your consent, but it gets it. It does not say, 'Will you have it?' but it makes you willing in the day of God's power...The gospel wants not your consent; it gets it. It knocks the enmity out of your heart. He makes your will turn around, and then you cry, 'Lord, save, or I perish.' 'Ah,' might heaven say, 'I knew I would make you say that!'"

"Ballad of the Unborn"

I can't remember when I first read, the "Ballad of the Unborn," by Fay Clayton - I think it was around 2006 or 2007. I was very happy when I Googled the title of this wonderful thought provoking poem, and found that it was published on the web. Please, take time to read this poem, and maybe share it with your friends.

The Most Drugged Up and Unbalanced Generation in History Wants to Know: Why Not Incest Too?

‘The Notebook’ director says if we back gay marriage, why not incest? | LifeSiteNews.com:

Excerpt:

"Defenders of marriage have long said if the institution is redefined beyond one man and one woman, there is no clear end to the new combinations that could be considered 'marriage.' A growing body of evidence shows the popular culture, led by Hollywood elites, do not intend to stop with same sex unions.

"Nick Cassavetes compared same-sex 'marriage' with incest in a positive light...told reporters at the debut of his new film that incest is no different than allowing same-sex weddings. 'Love who you want, isn't that what we say? Gay marriage - love who you want." Gay marriage – love who you want,” he said. 'If you're not having kids who give a damn?'"

A Marxist, a Mormon & A Catholic Go into a bar...

I can't imagine any Christian voting for President Obama. His stance on abortion alone should force Christians to either vote for Romney or stay home (See my recent post, Pro-Woman, Pro-Child, Pro-Life). But I'm not that comfortable with Romney either.

I can handle the fact that he is Mormon. That doesn't bother me.  Well, not too much! But if there were already 6 Mormons sitting on the Supreme Court, well, that's another story.

But that is just what we have - only not with Romney and not with Mormon Supreme Court Justices. Vice president Paul Ryan is a committed Catholic who 'attends church regularly' (Paul Ryan's Catholic Roots Reach Deep - WSJ.com).  And six - count them - six! - of our Supreme Court Justices are also Catholics (see Six Supreme Court Justices Attend DC Red Mass; Demographics of the Supreme Court)

Can you imagine what Obama could do if 6 of his comrades on the Supreme Court were members of the American Communist Party?

Introducing: Frank Peretti!

One of the things I like to do with my blog is tell people about books I am reading, or have read in the past. One of the Christian authors that I really like is Frank Peretti.  I have read many of his novels: The Oath, The Prophet, Tillie, The Hangman's Curse, The Door in the Dragon's Throat.  All of these are great books.

But by far, the books that I have enjoyed most of all are his two 'Darkness' books: This Present Darkness and the sequel to that wonderful book,  Piercing the Darkness.

I've heard he has been asked to do another sequel to these two books, and he has refused because they create too much interest in demons and the occult. That may be just a rumor, I don't know. But aside from being exceptionally well written and fun to read, these two books give the reader a glimpse of what may be going on in the spirit world.

As we come closer to Halloween I think it is important that Christians be on their guard against the reality of the devil and his demons.  And Frank Peretti's books, This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness, do an excellent job of increase our awareness of the spiritual world. The Bible says:

"Put on the whole armour of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities  against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." - Ephesians 6:11,12

Mr. Peretti's books are fiction, although as he will readily tell you, the subject matter is based on Biblical fact. For two excellent sermons that also heighten our awareness of the Devil and his demons, please listen to:

Pro-Woman! Pro-Child! Pro-Life!

I got the title for this post from a bumper sticker I saw today. It sends a clear message that those who are against abortion (pro-life) are not against women.  Those who oppose abortion are simply for ALL women, not just those who can vote. Barack Obama's hatred for the unborn - many of whom would grow up to be women one day if spared the doctor's knife! - rival's Hitler's hatred for the Jews. I'm a Jew

Actually, my ancestors came from Norway and Sweden.  But Spiritually, I'm more of a Jew than the current Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu.  If you are unsure of your own spiritual ancestry  please take some time today to listen to Dr. David Murray's sermon, "I'm a Jew. Hope You are Too."

The text for this sermon is Romans 2:28 & 29:

"For he is not a Jew which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision which is outward in the flesh: but he is a Jew which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God."

Children Need Jesus Too

Cassidy Goodson Charged With First-Degree Murder for Killing Newborn Son ("A 14 year old girl in Polk County, Fla. was arrested Thursday for allegedly choking her newborn son to death and storing the body in a shoe box after she secretly gave birth in a bathroom at her home earlier this month.")

This poor child needs Jesus. She desperately needs Jesus. She needs to listen to good gospel preaching, like Jonathan Edwards sermon, God is very angry at the sins of children, their heart is naturally full of sin, and also Charles Haddon Spurgeon's A Sermon for the Worst Man (woman, boy, girl) on Earth.

When read this story, I thought about the time when the Scribes and Pharisees brought a woman to our Lord Jesus who 'was caught in adultery, in the very act." (John 8:1-11).  They reminded Jesus that the law demanded that she be stoned. Jesus said to them.,'He that is without sin among you cast the first stone"

After they left, Jesus asked the woman, "Where are thine accusers? Hath no man condemned thee?"

She answered him, '"No man, Lord."

Then  Jesus said unto her, "Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more."

And I pictured the self righteous (Westboro Baptist Type!) Christians, taking this 14 year old girl to Jesus and telling him what she had done. I like to think that Jesus would have said to her also, "Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more!"

I think our Lord Jesus is much more angry with the doctors and nurses who have murdered 50 million babies in the womb over the past 40 years, than he is with a 14 year old girl who at a desperate point in her life made a bad decision.
