What Do Dr. Tim LaHaye and Glen Beck Have in Common?

I have recommended the Left Behind series (the novels and the books based on them) many times on this site. I usually give a disclaimer, saying that I don't agree with everything in these books/movies. But I like them. They are entertaining. And they do serve a very important purpose: they remind people that our Lord Jesus is going to come back one day.

But something happened yesterday that deeply disturbed me about these books and movies. I was at the library and I saw a novel on the counter titled: Thunder of Heaven: A Joshua Jordan Novel. And in very large print above the title was the name, Tim LaHaye!

I've read most of the Left Behind series (12 novels) as well as the three prequels that were written afterward. And I have watched the Left Behind movies many times (especially the first 2 movies: Left Behind: The Movie and Left Behind 2: Tribulation Force).  So I decided to check this book out.

The first thing I notice about this book was that it was endorsed by Glen Beck. I thought to myself, "Why in the world would Glen Beck be endorsing a book written by Dr. Tim LaHaye. Glen Beck is a Mormon, and the whole Mormon religion is based on the idea that all of the Christian churches became apostate soon after Jesus' disciples died. And it wasn't until Joseph Smith claimed to have a revelation in the early 1800s that the true church (the Mormon church!) was restored again.

But the question that really bothered me was this: Why was Dr. Tim LaHaye having a Mormon endorse his book about the end times? I went to Google and decided to look around. I typed in Tim LaHaye and Glen Beck and found out that Dr. LaHaye had endorsed a novel by Glen Beck on end times in the past! (Source)

There is really only one thing a Christian needs to know about the Mormon religion: "The Mormon God Elohim had sex with Mary." Apparently Dr. LaHaye either does not know this (unlikely!), or he does know it and doesn't care.

Kudos to Jiroemon Kimura! It is an accomplishment to be the oldest man alive. I only hope he has taken as good care of his soul as he has of his physical body. The late Dr. Martin Lloyd Jones once said, "This life has got to end, and your soul will go on. What, therefore, will happen to you?"

One of the verses in the Bible that has always been of interest to me is Matthew 24:36, where our Lord Jesus says: "This generation shall not pass until all these things have been fulfilled."

I'm pretty sure that this verse primarily referred to the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans in 70 A.D.  But like many Bible prophecies, I also think this has a dual meaning, the second of which has yet to be fulfilled.

Many well meaning Christians have used this verse to try to predict when our Lord would return. Those who see the restoration of the Jewish State in 1948 as a fulfillment of Biblical prophecy have used that date as sort of a clock, speculating that "One Generation" from that date (1948) is when Jesus would return.

I haven't really looked into where Dr. Harold Camping came up with his (false) predictions of our Lord's return in 2011, but I wouldn't be surprised if the year "1948' figured into his calculations. Many have said that the average generation in the Bible was 40 years, and therefore, 40 years from 1948 our Lord Jesus would return. That would have been 1988.

I recall listening to a taped radio broadcasts somewhere around 1990 in which the speaker was urgently calling on his listeners to prepare for the Return of our Lord Jesus in September of 1988 (I think the tape was made a few months prior to that date).  The speaker was an accountant who calculated that Jesus would return on Rosh Hashanah (September) of 1988 (You can read his book 88 Reasons Why the Rapture Will Occur in  1988!, by Edgar C. Whisenant)

Our Lord makes it abundantly clear: No man knows the day or the hour of his return (Matthew 24:36). But that date has been set, and just as surely as our Lord Jesus came to earth the first time (as was prophesied in the Old Testament!), he will return again in the future. The Bible says:

"Knowing this first, that in the last days there will come scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying, where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation. For this they are willingly ignorant of, that by the Word of God the heavens were of old and the earth standing out of and in the water: whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth which are now, by the same Word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgement and perdition of ungodly men. But beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness, but is long suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in the which the heavens shall pass away with great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also, and the works that are therein shall be burned up." (2 Peter 3:3-10)

On that day only one thing will matter: your relationship (or lack of it!) with our Lord Jesus Christ. Please stop what you are doing and listen to this important Gospel sermon by Dr. David P. Murray:

I got my first exposure to Biblical prophecy at an early age. My parents hosted a Bible study at our home and one of the things we studied was Hal Lindsey's best seller, The Late Great Planet Earth.  In the years that followed I tried to read every book I could get that was written by Hal Lindsey. He was convinced that Jesus was coming back soon, and so was I.

Almost 40 years have past since those Bible studies, and I am still convinced our Lord Jesus is coming back soon. While my faith in Jesus Christ remains intact, my faith in Hal Lindsey has faltered (See Hal Lindsey General Teachings/ Activities).

In the 1990s Tim Lahaye and Jerry Jenkins started churning out their Left Behind books (which eventually spawned a multi-multi million dollar Christian media empire).  I think I have read most of the books in this series (12 novels, plus 3 'prequils!').  Very entertaining. And while I don't agree with much of their 'end time' scenario, still I would not want to dissuade anyone from reading these books or watching the movies  (you can watch the movies Left Behind, Left Behind 2 Tribulation Force and Left Behind 3 The World at War for free on YouTube!).

In fact, the scene toward the end of Left Behind 2 Tribulation Force, which I like to call, the Conversion of Ivy, is something every Christian - and especial every non-Christian - should watch!

Russian General Warns of Coming US Collapse

If you grew up in the 1960's, 1970's and 1980's (like I did), you probably felt a mixture of shock and relief when in the early 1990's the Soviet Union started to fall apart. I know I did.

I felt shock because I really thought the Soviet Union was here to stay and that there would always be the threat of nuclear war breaking out between them and America.  I felt relief because I thought that the fall of the Soviet Union signaled a new era of peace and prosperity with the United States being the dominant political (and military) force on the globe.

In an article today on the Infowars web site, a Russian General is quoted as saying:  “The USSR Collapsed and the Same Fate Has Been Prepared for the USA” I am absolutely convinced that Americans are going to see this happen in the very near future - and both Obama and Romney are going to do nothing to stop it.

Also on the Infowars web site there is an article titled Central Bankers Inflate Fiat While One World Currency is Finalized. Fiat money is currency that has value because its government says it has value. The dollar is worth 100 pennies because the United States government says its worth 100 pennies.

Well, Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke has been running the 'fiat' printing press almost non stop for the past 12 years - that is what this article means when it says "Central bankers inflate fiat." The Fed is creating a gigantic economic bubble that is going to burst in the near future and it may send America into a depression that makes the 1930s look like the Era of Good Feeling.

Why doesn't our president and congressmen do something about this? Well, Senator Ron Paul sponsored a bill to audit the Federal Reserve. That bill passed the house but our Senators voted it down. They don't want the Fed audited.

And in a recent article, Ben Bernanke himself told congress to mind its own business (See my post Bernanke Tells Congress to Butt Out of the Fed - What Planet Are We Living On?)

So what is going on in America where a man who controls the printing press can tell congress to butt out of his business?  I believe there is only one explanation for it, and you can learn about this by reading my post Why I believe in the Conspiracy Theory of History.

I was first exposed to the Conspiracy Theory of History more than 30 years ago when I read Gary Allen's book, None Dare Call it Conspiracy. And everything I have seen since - including the fall of the Soviet Union and the now predicted fall of the USA by this Russian General -not to mention the 75% increase in our national debt just within the  past 12 years- supports the thesis of this book.

Jesus Not Allowed - In America!

For ten righteous men God would have spared Sodom and Gomorrah. I have to wonder if God is holding back his wrath against America because of the true Christians that still live in this land.  Our Lord Jesus said:

"Ye are the salt of the earth, but if the salt hath lost its savor it is henceforth good for nothing but to be cast under foot and trodden among men." Matthew 5:13

It is getting harder and harder for Christians to be salt in America. And the time may soon come when we have lost all our saltiness, and the godless in this country will trample us underfoot.

Jesus said, "And ye shall be hated of all men for my name sake, and then the end shall come." Matthew 24: 9

Some Thoughts on the Antichrist

Yesterday's blog was on the Mark of the Beast, which, while I still believe is going to be a literal Mark people will be forced to receive to show their allegiance to a future demon possessed ruler the Bible calls Antichrist, I also admit that the following definition of the Mark of the Beast may be valid as well:

"Accepting Worldliness is taking the Mark of the Beast in every generation.' (Leon Morris). I think it goes without saying that the person who is already living his or her life in the service of the devil will have no objection to receiving his Mark.

For years people have speculted why the United States does not seam to appear anywhere in the Bible, especially when it comes to prophecies surrounding the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.

For sure, there are many Americans who are mentioned in the Bible (see Psalms 14:1, Psalms 9:17, Psalms 11:5, etc.).  But especially when it comes to what the Bible says about the end times, many have wondered why the United States is not mentioned.

When the disciples of John the Baptists complained that the people were going to Jesus instead of him, John said: "He must increase but I must decrease." - John 3:30. I think the same thing could be said about America and China today: They must increase and we must decrease.

I think one of the reasons that America does not seam to be mentioned in the Bible is because America is going to cease to play a major role in world events as time gets closer to the end.  For example,  many people see an obvious reference to China in in the book of Revelation.

In Revelation 9:13-16 were are told about 4 angels which were bound in the river Euphrates and how that after they were loosed an army of 2 million were set free to 'slay the third part of men.' (vs. 9:16):

"And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God, saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great Euphrates. And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a mounth and a year, for to slay the third part of men. And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand (2 million)."

And in Revelation 16:12 we read "And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water therof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared."

There is only one nation on the planet that could field an army of 2 million soldiers - and they just happended to be 'east' of the Eurphrates. Coincidence, huh?
