Don McLean - The Meaning of American Pie (Update)

Note: The second video ends with the following quote by Don McLean:

"It was a story about America. The fact that people were drawn into the song as a result of symbols that I chose to use was the reason that I chose to use those symbols in the first place."

American Pie came out in 1971. Two years later another hit song came out - about Don McClean and his song, American Pie. That song was Killing Me Softly (The Killing Me Softly Story).

I've heard - although I haven't been able to verify it - that Don McClean said this about the meaning of his song, American Pie:

"This song means I never have to work another day the rest of my life!"

Although I have been very critical of our President on this site (possibly too critical; check out When Government Tries to Be God), I am not critical of America. I consider myself a Patriot and there is no other country on earth I would rather live. I think Americans who renounce their citizenship to protect their "assets" are making a serious mistake.

Is God Still Watching Over America?

I read somewhere about a man who asked a Native American, "How do you curse in Cherokee?" The Native American replied, "We don't." "Never?" replied the man? "No. We never found it necessary until the white man arrived!"

Matt Drudge, of the Drudge Report - which I highly recommend! - has stirred up some controversy over some of his tweets. One of the questions he asks is this:

"Do you get the feeling God is no longer watching over America?"

Yes, Matt Drudge, I do get the feeling God is no longer watching over America. God is not going to let America get away with murdering over 50 million unborn human beings since Roe vs. Wade was passed in 1973. God is not going to let America steal $17 trillion dollars from their children's children in the form of a national debt they have no intention of even trying to pay off.

Please Don't Send Me to ... America?

I grew up in a church that had a long history of supporting missionaries to other countries. And so when I first heard the song, Please Don't Send Me to Africa, it brought me back to my child hood days sitting in church listening to some missionary speak of the work he or she was doing in so distant land. Here is the chorus to this cute song:

"Please don't send me to Africa

I'm sure I don't have what it takes

I'm just a man, I'm not a Tarzan

Don't like monkeys, gorillas or snakes.

I'll serve you well in suburbia, in my comfortable middle class life

But please don't send me to Africa

Where the natives are restless at night."

Today I listened to a sermon that might have been called The Sequel to Please Don't Send Me to Africa. This sermon is by Keith Daniels of South Africa and it is titled:  A Warning To America.

Here is just a short excerpt from this very powerful - and even scary - sermon:

"But now my children and my wife were coming back to America and we were going to have six days in New York... And as I was walking, suddenly, my heart sank. Because I saw buildings suddenly with neon lights that were so filthy what was being advertised on those neon lights...I could not believe my eyes at such filth and depravity was so public and my heart just sank. And I said, No God, no. And I began to cry. If it was so filthy outside can you inagine how defiled a human would be inside if you walked in...?...I turned around and looked at another building and it was worse, more bigger, more defiling...  And I began to weep aload, and I said, 'God, I can't bring my children to New York.'... I said, no, you defile your child bringing your child to America. You defile you child bringing him to New York, the greatest city in the world....And I began to weep, and I began to weep loader than I thought I was weeping, I wept so load I was standing there sobbing...and I lifted my hands up and I was shouting, I didn't know I was shoutiing, I was not trying to be fanatical...I cried so loud in my anger that I couldn't bring my children to the city without defiling them. I cried out 'God I'll do anything but close these building down God close these buildings down! They're defiling the children...God this is defiling, this is defiling. Close these buildings down...in Jesus Name I wept. A few hundred people were standing still...I looked at their faces and most of them had tears coming down their faces..."

Jesus Not Allowed - In America!

'Jesus Not Allowed': Anti-Faith Sentiment Sweeps US - US - CBN News - Christian News 24-7 - CBN.com:

For ten righteous men God would have spared Sodom and Gomorrah. I have to wonder if God is holding back his wrath against America because of the true Christians that still live in this land.  Our Lord Jesus said:

"Ye are the salt of the earth, but if the salt hath lost its savor it is henceforth good for nothing but to be cast under foot and trodden among men." Matthew 5:13

It is getting harder and harder for Christians to be salt in America. And the time may soon come when we have lost all our saltiness, and the godless in this country will trample us underfoot.

Jesus said, "And ye shall be hated of all men for my name sake, and then the end shall come." Matthew 24: 9

America's Death Rattle

Today is Thanksgiving - at least in America. I am a patriot and I love my country. I'm not ashamed to say I am a conservative Republican although I really don't think there is much difference between the two parties. My ancestors came over from Norway and Sweden over 100 years ago, but I consider myself a 'spiritual' descendant of the Puritans.

One of the benefits of being in prison (and there are many) is you get to know people from a wide range of backgrounds. I've made friends with Native Americans whose ancestors occupied this country for thousands of years before Columbus 'discovered it.' I've made friends with African Americans who were the direct descendants of slaves. And I've gotten to know many men from Mexico who are firmly convinced that America stole their country - or at least a large portion of it in the Southwestern states.

I empathize with them, but at the same time there is no doubt in my mind that if America did not exist, especially in the last century, the world as we know it today would be radically different, and not for the better.

If there were not an America that was willing to fight in World War I and World War II, we would all be speaking German today (especially France!).

If America did not get involved in the Vietnam war/conflict, the so called 'Domino Theory' may well have come true and today we would be fighting a communist Canada on the North and a communist Mexico on the South.

And if we never had a Ronald Regan who was willing to stand up to the Soviet Union in the 1980s, God only knows where the world would be today. No doubt Al Gore would have still invented the Internet (!!) but it would only have one link, and that would take you to Soviet-Empire.com.

I used to work in a hospital where I cared for many patients who were on their death bed. There is a sound that people make when they are about to die - some call it a death rattle. I can hear the death rattle coming out of America's throat and I know that the time is near.
