The world can be a pretty scary place, and everywhere we look there is tragedy and heartache. And it seams as though Christians are being persecuted more now than any time in recent history. But at times like this it is good to remember that God is still in charge. Our Lord Jesus is still on his throne. And the Bible is still without error and everything it has to say will surely come to past!
And one of those things the Bible - our Lord Jesus - says is: "And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached as a witness to all nations, and then the end shall come." Matthew 24:14. But as the Bible also says, "How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in him in whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?" (Romans 10:14).

My Prayer for 2013: Every Reader a Missionary!
One December 16, 2012, I posted a short article to this site titled: Dear Jesus: Give me the Heathen for Christmas in 2012! Today's post is an update to that earlier post.
One of the highlights to my day is checking the statistics for My Gospel Project. So far, I have had people from the following countries visit this site:

I started My Gospel Project with the sole purpose of doing my part - as a layman, a non-minister - to help spread the gospel of my Lord Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth. Although I write about a very wide variety of topics (some controversial!), that remains the sole purpose of this website.
One of the ministers that I quote from frequently on this site is Pastor Charles Spurgeon (1834 - 1892). This godly pastor has been used by our Lord to bring the gospel to more people that almost anyone in history. And yet his own conversion, which you can listen to in The Conversion of Charles Spurgeon, took place in a small church under the preaching of an unordained minister (the regular minister was not able to make it so someone in the congregation stood up and preached on the text : "Look unto me and be ye saved" - Isaiah 45:22).
While I appreciate every one who takes the time to stop by my website - for whatever reason - what I would really like is that my readers from all around the world - the United States included! - would be able to find the gospel in these web pages, and go out and be like Pastor Spurgeon, and spread that gospel to the 'far ends of the earth.
That is my prayer for 2013!

From Greenland's Icy Mountains: Introducing SIM.org
One of the highlights of my day is checking the stats on this website (My Gospel Project) to see how many people have visited my site and from where. Just within the past week I have had visitors from the United States, Canada, Germany, The Netherlands, France, United Kingdom, Malaysia, China, South Korea, and Italy.
Since I started My Gospel Project I have had people from over 70 countries around the world visit this site. (See What is My Gospel Project for a full list of countries this website has reached).
I don't say that to brag, but rather to encourage my readers to start their own 'Gospel Project.' My church supports a lot of missionaries around the world. Just this past week we heard from a husband and wife who were serving in Thailand through SIM.org (which stands for serving in Missions). I was so impressed by the work they are doing over there I added SIM.org to my list of organizations that I ask my readers to donate to (along with Wycliffe Bible Translators and Sermonaudio.com).
We can't all be missionaries in foreign countries, but God helping us we can support them financially. And perhaps the Lord will lay it upon your heart to start a blog - maybe similar to this one, or maybe totally different. Either way, we have our Lord's promise that:
"My word shall not return to me void, but shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it." - Isaiah 55:11

Please Don't Send Me to ... America?
I grew up in a church that had a long history of supporting missionaries to other countries. And so when I first heard the song, Please Don't Send Me to Africa, it brought me back to my child hood days sitting in church listening to some missionary speak of the work he or she was doing in so distant land. Here is the chorus to this cute song:
Today I listened to a sermon that might have been called The Sequel to Please Don't Send Me to Africa. This sermon is by Keith Daniels of South Africa and it is titled: A Warning To America.
Here is just a short excerpt from this very powerful - and even scary - sermon:
"Please don't send me to Africa
I'm sure I don't have what it takes
I'm just a man, I'm not a Tarzan
Don't like monkeys, gorillas or snakes.
I'll serve you well in suburbia, in my comfortable middle class life
But please don't send me to Africa
Where the natives are restless at night."

"But now my children and my wife were coming back to America and we were going to have six days in New York... And as I was walking, suddenly, my heart sank. Because I saw buildings suddenly with neon lights that were so filthy what was being advertised on those neon lights...I could not believe my eyes at such filth and depravity was so public and my heart just sank. And I said, No God, no. And I began to cry. If it was so filthy outside can you inagine how defiled a human would be inside if you walked in...?...I turned around and looked at another building and it was worse, more bigger, more defiling... And I began to weep aload, and I said, 'God, I can't bring my children to New York.'... I said, no, you defile your child bringing your child to America. You defile you child bringing him to New York, the greatest city in the world....And I began to weep, and I began to weep loader than I thought I was weeping, I wept so load I was standing there sobbing...and I lifted my hands up and I was shouting, I didn't know I was shoutiing, I was not trying to be fanatical...I cried so loud in my anger that I couldn't bring my children to the city without defiling them. I cried out 'God I'll do anything but close these building down God close these buildings down! They're defiling the children...God this is defiling, this is defiling. Close these buildings down...in Jesus Name I wept. A few hundred people were standing still...I looked at their faces and most of them had tears coming down their faces..."

Remembering George Whitfield and John Wesely
One of the things that separates Christians from Roman Catholics is Christians don't pray to dead saints. But that doesn't mean we can't honor their memory by speaking of them - not to them, but of them! - from time to time.
And so I'd like to take this opportunity to ask my readers to reflect on two great Christian evangelists of the 1700s: George Whitefield (1714 - 1770) and John Wesley (1703 - 1791). George Whitefield was a Calvinist. John Wesley was an Arminian (a non-Calvinist). They were close friends and worked together in preaching the gospel until their Calvinist/Non-Calvinist differences caused them to go their separate ways.
Someone once asked George Whitefield if he thought he would see John Wesley in heaven. Mr. Whitefield said. "No. John Wesley will be so close to the Throne of Glory, and I will be so far away, I will hardly get a glimpse of him."
And that latter day Puritan, Charles Spurgeon (1834 - 1892), of whom I quote extensively on this site, once said of John Wesley:
"Though I detest many of the doctrines he preaches, yet for the man himself, I have a reverence second to no Wesleyan."

Untold Millions Are Still Untold!
Someone recently used the phrase, Weapons of Mass Distraction. I can't recall where I saw it, or what the context was, but it should should be something we Christians keep in mind as we prepare to enter 2013 (if our Lord Jesus does not come before then!).
Some of the Weapons of Mass Destraction that come to mind are these:
TV
TV
Movies
Sports
News (yes, news!)
Debt
Personal and national finances
Work
Family
Music
And even the Church.
Anything that we cram into our lives to keep us from spending time with our Lord Jesus Christ is a 'Weapon of Mass Distraction' that the Devil uses to drag us down to hell with him. Don't let him do it! And as much as it is in your power, don't let him use those WMD to take our neighbors to hell either.
Pastor Charles Spurgeon (1834 - 1892) says:
"If sinners will be damned, at least let them leap to hell over our bodies. And if they will perish, let them perish with our arms about their knees, imploring them to stay. If hell must be filled, at least let it be filled in the teeth of our exertions, and let not one go there unwarned and unprayed for."

Don't let Jesus Pass You By
I have been a Calvinist for over 30 years (see my post Calvinism Refuted - And Defended!). One of the ministers I listened to in those early years of my Christian life was Rev. Paul Den Butter. I have posted several links to his sermons on this web site, and you may wish to check out his sermon on Total Depravity before you retire for the evening.
Recently, I have been going over a diary that I have kept for a number of years, and I stumbled on some of the notes I took from Rev. Den Butter's sermons. Some of those notes I incorporated into my recent post: The Pharisee, The Publican, and the Sandy Hook Massacre. Below is yet another excerpt from a sermon I heard by Rev. Den Butter in the early 1980s:

of Nazareth passes by. Don't let this opportunity slip. Why should you do
it? Why should you run the risk to be lost in the place of the
damned? What is so valuable in life, that you would put your soul in
jeopardy? Can I not persuade you? Can I not convince you that there
must be a calling upon the Lord? Remember, if we fail to make use of
God's offer of grace, we will regret it throughout all the ages of
eternity. And there are many at this very same moment that weep and
cry and wail because of their lost condition. Jesus passed by and
they did not cry. And now they cry, but they are lost, and why are
they lost? Not because of any unwillingness on the part of Jesus to
save them. But because Jesus passed by, and they did not cry out to
him!”
That's calvinism! And Calvinism is just another word for the Gospel!

Dear Jesus: Give Me the Heathen for Christmas in 2012!
The Bible Says:
"Ask of me, and I will give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the world for thy possession." - Psalms 2:8
I wonder how many early American settlers saw in this verse God's promise to give the land we call America to the Christians? I'm sure many did. Maybe some of the people who owned and sold slaves also used this verse to quiet their consciences. But Psalms 2:8 is not a promise to take someones property (or in the case of slavery, the persons themselves!). Read what 19th century pastor Charles Haddon Spurgeon has to say about this verse in his Treasury of David:
"'Ask of me.' It was a custom among great kings, to give to favored ones whatever they might ask. (See Esther 5:6; Matthew 14:7). So Jesus hath but to ask and have. Here he declares that his very enemies are his inheritance. To their face he declares this decree, and 'Lo! here,' cries the Anointed One, as he holds aloft in that once pierced hand the scepter of his power, 'He hath given me this, not only the right to be a king, but the power to conquer.' Yes! Jehovah hath given to his Anointed a rod of iron with which he shall break rebellious nations in pieces, and, despite their imperial strength, they shall be but as potter's vessels, easily dashed into shivers, when the rod of iron is in the hand of the omnipotent Son of God. Those who will not bend must break. Potters' vessels are not to be restored if dashed in pieces, and the ruin of sinners will be hopeless if Jesus shall smite them.
'Ye sinners seek his grace,
Whose wrath ye cannot bear;
Fly to the shelter of his cross,
And find salvation there.'"
I started this web site, My Gospel Project, with the grandiose goal of spreading the gospel of my Lord Jesus to every person on the face of the earth. So far I have had visitors from over 65 countries check out my site. If I could ask one thing for Christmas this year, it would be this: that at least one person from every one of those countries who visited this site, would say, "I can what he is doing," and go on to create their own "Gospel Project," that our Lord Jesus could use to bring the gospel to a lost and perishing world.
May it be so, Lord Jesus!
