Should Obama Grant More Pardons?

Obama, It's Time to Pardon More Regularly - newser.com

Excerpt from this article:

"Presidents and governors should grant pardons regularly, consistently, throughout terms, as opposed to, very questionably, at the 'last minute.'"

I have a better idea. Appoint a committee to review the court records of every man and woman in prison. And give the committee this mandate: Based on the evidence, if this convict would have had $10 million to spend on their defense, would they have gone to prison? If the answer is "No," or even "probably not," then pardon that person and release him or her immediately. In other words, apply the same "justice" to everyone in prison today as was applied to O. J. Simpson back in 1995. O.J. Simpson is reported to have spent $10 million on his defense.

Here, I'll give the committee a head start:

"You have to hire the best investigators, criminologist, forensic people right now, Shapiro said. You must bring them in immediately to get an independent review of the evidence. The longer you wait, the more the evidence will be disturbed. Shapiro added that he always treated experts well. First class travel, top hotels, the best restaurants. Some lawyers try to economize with tourist class and cheap hotels. That doesn't buy loyalty." (From An American Tragedy, page 29)

The Lawyer Poem

"As a young lawyer
from the books that I'd read
I though justice and law were the same.
But I soon put such juvenile thoughts from my head

And I studied the rules of the game."
